  • Peaceful rural Carmarthenshire site with valley views near Carmarthen
  • A half-hour drive to Oakwood Theme Park and Wild Lakes Wales
  • Fishing the Taf river on site; five minutes’ drive to shops and dining
Sitting in 25 acres of West Wales countryside and with great views of the surrounding valley, The Marsh is well placed for exploring the coastlines of both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire around Carmarthen. With multiple kids’ attractions within half an hour’s drive, this is a top-notch spot for families with active kids – and their dogs are welcome too. It’s also a cracking choice for anglers, as they can practise casting for salmon, sea trout and bass amid a glorious backdrop of birdsong along the Taf river (extra cost). If you’re looking for a relaxing day on site, have a potter along its nature trails or wander down to the Taf for a waterside stroll. To up the pace a bit, head to the seaside town of Tenby (half an hour’s drive) for splashing around in the sea and boat trips to Caldey Island, or go sailing and windsurfing in Saundersfoot (25 minutes). Back on site, there’s a variety of grass pitches (some uneven and unmown) and simple facilities stretch to a washing-up area, a portable toilet and ice-pack freezing to keep barbecue goodies fresh. Pick up basics in the village of St Clears – where you can also down a caffeine fix – or do bigger shops in Laugharne (both five minutes), home to a ruined castle and displays in the Dylan Thomas Writing Shed. If you prefer, you could dodge the cooking completely and pick up fish and chips to eat back at camp or try a couple of Pembrokeshire brews in a local pub.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very peaceful site overnight. Owner very friendly and helpful. Small honesty shop which, although only minimal stock when we were there early season will have freshly butchered sausages, burgers etc as well as fresh eggs from chickens on site.

Disliked: Some traffic noise during daytime but quiet at night

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The Marsh Campsite was a great location to stay! A 40 minute scenic walk to the town of Saint Clears, you have to walk mostly on the road, but not massive amounts of traffic so was fine. 30 mins drive to Tenby which is a MUST VISIT town for everyone staying here!! The Owner met us on site who was very friendly and informative about what we needed to know on our stay. The honesty shop is great, local meat from the owners farm including Lamb Steaks, Beef Burgers, Bacon and Sausages. We got to pick our own pitch as it wasn’t busy which was great. You NEED a torch as is pitch black, which we loved as it was peaceful and dark at night, no light pollution.

Disliked: Only 1 shower and 1 toilet for the whole site. Honesty Shop could’ve been more stocked with produce and snacks. Rooster nearby very loud between 7-9am, so be prepared for an early rise!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We were met by the owner Huw, who was a true gent, he explained everything and showed us our pitch, which was a really good size overlooking the pond. Huw came around the following day and as I was outside came for a chat which was very nice. Will definitely be back with my Wellies next time for winter walks around the marsh. Easy access which is a bonus.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Such a warm , genuine welcome from Huw the owner .
Nothing seems too much trouble and he was so helpful.
Our pitch was perfect , amazing views overlooking a wildlife pond .
Huw the owner said that when tide comes in at around 5 on the Saturday we stayed otters visit. We went to the estuary to fish at 4 so would have missed them . One of the otters came to visit while we were fishing - made a grand entrance with some big splashes in the dark , then popped his head up on the bank right by us - head torch gave light to see him -Made my day , he stayed for a couple of minutes and went.
Saw plenty of fish jumping - first time fishing on an estuary .
Had lamb burgers and home made sweet chilli jam from farm shop - beautiful!!!
Took some lamb steaks home ,from shop.
Will definitely be back very soon .
Never used facilities but had a look - shower was very clean and so was toilet.
Can’t wait to come back -
Unspoilt gem 💎

Disliked: Only stayed one night !!

I'm over the moon to hear you got to see one of the otters they are beautiful animals and lovely to play in our ponds and river.
Hopefully we will see you again at some point and you'll have more luck with the fishing, you can also let me know what you thought of our salt Marsh lamb steaks.
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hopefully we will see you soon

Thanks a lot Huw

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great views and friendly reception. There is an honesty shop although this was being wound down at the time of my visit.

Disliked: Cows close to pitches, unsettling for dog, although the cows didn’t seem to mind being growled at. CEP needs a bit of work done on it.

Sorry to read you were not happy with the cow's being in the next field most probably people really enjoy seeing the little Dexter's wondering around.

Local attractions

What a spot for family holidays. You can keep the kids going all day with animal encounters at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes’ drive), or challenge them to mini-golf games and paintball fights at Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour). With adrenaline-busting rollercoaster and thrill rides, Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) is another action-packed day trip for active families. Rather be out in the water? There’s a wave pool and high-impact flume rides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (25 minutes), or you can book family wakeboarding lessons at Wild Lakes Wales (half an hour). On sunny days, jump in the car and head for the beaches in Saundersfoot (half an hour) for some downtime messing about in the waves. To slow things down a bit, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) is a good place for lots of strolls in peaceful landscapes and rare plants in a Norman Foster-designed glasshouse, or you can up the cultural element of your Wales break with a guided tour of Pembroke Castle (35 minutes).
