  • Smart self-contained camping pods at a 20-acre Carmarthenshire park
  • Historic Kidwelly five minutes’ drive; Pembrey Country Park 15 minutes
  • Farm shop and café on site; profits support a charitable foundation
Now here’s a place that will really gladden the heart – the stylish pods at Gwlad Glamping are in gorgeous surroundings, and a stay here will directly benefit the charitable foundation run by the owners. The glampsite is part of a 20-acre rural Carmarthenshire property that’s also home to a well-stocked farm shop, a café, play area and dog park. The historic town of Kidwelly, with its castle, shops, pubs and takeaways, is about a mile away. There’s also a railway station there if you’d like to travel on public transport. Gwlad Glamping makes a fabulous base for exploring West Wales, perhaps spending time on the beach or roaming the countryside, visiting the National Botanic Garden of Wales or planning family trips to adventure parks. In between all these days out, you’ll be coming back to your cosy camping pod with its own decking where you soak up the glorious scenery. Each pod is self-contained with its own bathroom and kitchen corner as well as heating, power sockets and proper beds – and crockery, glassware, cutlery, bed linen and towels are provided to help you keep your packing to a minimum. And if all of that wasn’t enticing enough, it’s good to know that profits from the glampsite go towards the work of the John Burns Foundation, which sponsors reading dogs and supports members of the community who are socially isolated or disabled.

Daisy 2 bedroom camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Amazing hosts, so thoughtful, such lovely touches- milk bread apprentice butter jams on arrival. Cosy clean hut, plenty of towels, hot tub was brilliant loads of wood to keep us going.
There was a small issue at admit that was rapidly sorted and they couldn’t have been more helpful.
Lovely area to visit went locally for food to red lion and st Ellis bay- highly recommended as is pembrey country park and Kidwelly castle

Daisy 2 bedroom camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Loved the lodge it was nice and cosy and comfortable, which is what you want.
The hottub of course.
The little gifts left on the table for when you arrive was a lovely touch.
How easy it is to check in and out.

Disliked: No oven so your very limited to what you can cook whilst there.
Nothing for the children (eg little park) only across the road at the shop/cafe
No walks trails, being a short stay we didn't want to travel to have to do activities.

Local attractions

Kids with you? Make a beeline for Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (40 minutes’ drive) to spend time on the brightly painted vintage carousels and meet the big cats, or take the family to WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre to spot (hopefully) swans and cranes. As well as the Norman Foster-designed glasshouse, there are also zipwires and a multi-activity centre for younger visitors at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (both 25 minutes), and the lovely sandy beaches at Tenby are 50 minutes by car. If you’d prefer more cultural pursuits, walk the Norman ramparts at Kidwelly Castle (20 minutes’ walk), or scramble up to the 13th-century ruins of Carreg Cennen Castle (45 minutes) on its limestone crag. Head for Laugharne (half an hour) to visit the Dylan Thomas Boathouse, where the great Welsh bard lived between 1949 and 1953. Combine history with a walk at Aberglasney Gardens (half an hour), with its rare Elizabethan-era cloister garden, yew tree arch and sub-tropical greenhouse, and for a real blast of pure Welsh air, take a stroll along the coastal dunes in Pembrey Country Park (15 minutes).
