  • Friendly well-maintained site with easy access to the M4
  • A 20-minute walk to the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and popular trails
  • A short walk cafés and bus stops in Newport's scenic Ridgeway area
Looking for a handy dog-friendly base from which it’s easy to visit the likes of Cardiff and the Wye Valley? Hold your horses, for Northern Hay Stable is a very friendly family-run site next to a horse-riding school in the Ridgeway area of Newport. The Ridgeway area is a scenic part of Newport with views of the city – and handily enough, Northern Hay Stables is a 20-minute walk from one of its most popular dog-friendly cafés. Closer by, 10 minutes’ walk away from the site, there’s also an old-fashioned café serving tasty ice cream. When you want to explore the city, there is a handy 15-minute connection to the city centre from the bus stop five minutes’ walk away. Otherwise, bring your bicycle to this well-maintained site, as it’s a 20-minute walk from the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre. This particular spot is on National Cycle Route 47 and has access to a pretty canal towpath and the Sirhowy Valley Walk. The Allt-Yr-Yn Nature Reserve is also a 40-minute walk away. For trips further afield, the site is just a one-minute drive from Junction 27 of the M4, which will take you to Cardiff in around 25 minutes and the Wye Valley National Landscape in around 40 minutes. Well-maintained facilities at this friendly site include a toilet and shower block and charging facilities. Barbecues have the green light.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Ease of access, good motorway link. It was an attractive venue being a small holding. Excellent position to walk up both the Ridgeway, the 14 locks and beyond. The aspect was very attractive. Lovely to have a fire pit and seating. It was generous that the wood was free but unfortunately it was wet as not in a store. The Astro turf pitch ensures dry underfoot which is particularly welcome with two dogs. Looking forward to visiting again

Electric hardstanding touring caravan pitch

Liked: Surprisingly peaceful given the proximity to the M4. The location was perfect for us and we were located in the top field. No passers by which was a bonus for our dogs! We arrived later than planned due to work but that wasn't a problem. Sam came out to meet us and direct us to where we could pitch and helped us with getting the caravan in place. Very friendly and helpful whenever we saw him over the course of the weekend. The stables definitely suited our purpose and we would look to book again for next year. Good electric, good water supply and solid standing for the caravan.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. Had everything we needed.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: very friendly owners

Disliked: the camp site was the parking area which backed onto the motorway above and there was road noise most of the night.
I was not warned that you needed 20p pieces to use the shower so couldnt shower.
