Breakfast baps made with local produce

  • Spacious and peaceful adults-only site with Bristol Channel views
  • Cwm Nash Beach 15 minutes’ walk; Llantwit Major 10 minutes’ drive
  • On-site bar with a weekend breakfast service; pub five minutes’ walk
Piches with coastal views, a short stroll from the beach and an even shorter one to an award-winning pub should always get your holiday vote… add in that Heritage Coast Campsite is adults-only and dog friendly, and you’ll likely hail the site as a winner. Based in Cowbridge, Glamorgan, and 15 minutes’ walk from Cwm Nash Beach along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, the site is served by Teddy’s, a welcoming spot with a well-stocked bar, a log fire to cosy up around in colder weather and a patio for evening drinks and snacks in summer. You can eat breakfast there on Saturday and Sunday – local produce is used in the cooking, while vegetarian options and decent coffees are also available. Should you need sightseeing inspo, there’s tourist information in there too. Otherwise, you have pubs serving supper in Monknash (10 minutes’ walk) and Wick (10 minutes’ drive), and live music in the local pub (five minutes' walk) at the weekend. There’s a small shop in Monknash plus supermarkets in Llantwit Major (10 minutes’ drive), where you can buy barbecue goodies to cook on firepits rented from the site; kiln-dried logs can be bought too. As well as disabled facilities, a utility room and a freezer, on-site amenities include two blocks, each with toilets, showers (there’s a small charge), sinks and a hand dryer, plus a hairdryer in the ladies’ block. Take time at dusk to listen for hooting owls and watch the sunsets from your pitch: Heritage Coast Campsite is in a wildlife haven too…

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: From the pitch, the facilities, and the cafe, to the staff, the food and drinks, everything was fantastic! All the team worked hard, were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us! The walk to the beach was beautiful, the local pub food was lovely and they had a live band playing. We shall be back, thank you so much! Kate & Dean

Disliked: Nothing

Brook Paddock non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location was perfect for what we wanted as a base to explore the South Wales coast. The site is closely situated to Monknash beach which is a short and picturesque walk away.
We found the site and facilities to be clean and tidy. The owners and guests we met were a really friendly and helpful bunch too. We didn't try the food at the cafe/bar on site but the drink selection was good and inside was cozy and a fab hideout when the weather took a turn.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Large pitches which were great.
A washing up bowl in the sinks was a nice addition.
Friendly staff.

Disliked: Advertised as an adults only camp sight but there was a young child camping with his parent as well as young children staying in the lodges opposite out pitch.
Toilets in the ladies were blocked multiple times.
Sinks in the wash rooms weren’t very clean at all, even after they had supposedly been cleaned.
Paid £98 for 2 nights: Campervan, EHU, awning, 3 adults & a dog.
Felt this was overpriced already and you were still charged 50p for a 5 minute shower.
There was free WiFi but it didn’t work and we were the second pitch nearest to the reception so we should have been able to get some signal but nothing. No mobile phone signal either.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
This is our first year changing to Adult Only Campsite, the weekend of your visit being the first in the season. Unfortunately a lady did arrive with a 12 year old son, as a returning customer she did not know our change to Adults only, we explained the position to her but did not feel for one Mum with a child we could ask her to leave. With regard to our Lodges we accept from 13 years of age, the Camping site, grounds and facilities are separate from the campsite and not used by residents of the Lodges as they have full facilities , hot tubs, parking and gardens.
Of major concern, your comments regarding the site not being very clean. The facilities had been newly decorated immediately prior to your visit and our groundsman takes great care to maintain a high level of cleanliness and maintenance to the extent of collecting campers waste from their pitches. Having checked with the staff we were made aware of one toilet being blocked which was immediately cleared.
With regard to WIFI, you are correct as we tell everyone on arrival unfortunately we cant get WIFI into the fields, only in the Cafe and adjoining Patio area.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Lovely well kept site, very clean toilet and shower facilities, well positioned for some nice walks and visiting the area.

Disliked: Sharing of electrical sockets between three pitches, sockets constantly tripping out because they are overloaded between sites. Paying £40 per night I did not expect to share my pitch facility.
Be mindful that there is no Elsan unit available to empty your caravan or motorhome toilets. This didn't bother me, but if you plan a long stay then it may affect your stay.
The internet on the site is only available at the entrance by the bar.

Brook Paddock non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great Location with easy access coastal walks and a decent pub within 300 metres.
Adult only site (Over 16s)
Bus stop at the end of the road (303 runs all along the coast).
Very friendly owners.
Clean toilets & showers.

Disliked: 50p required for a shower. (Knew that when we booked)
No wi-fi on the site in general, only at the cafe.
Very windy across the site for our entire stay, which caused some damage to our awning (NOT the site owners fault obviously, but be aware.)

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved it here, so nice to be in the middle of the country with a nice walk to the beach, through woodland. Nice little site, all pitch’s were on level ground. Very friendly. Nice and clean. Good food and drinks by the log burner. Also good to be able to rent a fire pit.
Nice little pub around the corner, also lovely food and a great atmosphere.

Disliked: Unfortunately the club house wasn’t open for food/drink on the Sunday evening. It was wet and windy so would have been a nice option.

Local attractions

Coastal walks, beaches, museums, castles and outdoor activities are all around locally to get stuck into. If you want to stick to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, it runs for 14 miles from Porthcawl to Aberthawl and has some highly scenic walks as well as even more scenic horse rides to be had on its beaches. You can also try out one of the local surf schools or go fishing nearby at Wick (10 minutes’ drive) or Penarth Beach (40 minutes). Active types can also try their luck at TeamSport Go Karting Cardiff (55 minutes), show their true colours at Taskforce Paintball Games (20 minutes) and have a few rounds of Welsh golf; there are a couple of courses within half an hour by car. Head for Ogmore (15 minutes) or Fonmon (20 minutes) castles to swot up on some Welsh history, and add to your knowledge with a trip to St Fagans National History Museum in Cardiff (40 minutes). The National Trust’s Dyffryn Gardens (half an hour) make an interesting day out for green-fingered types.
