  • Peaceful and family-friendly Glamorgan site bordering the River Taff
  • Castell Coch 10 minutes’ drive; Cardiff city centre 20 minutes
  • Communal kitchen and modern facilities; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Fancy a Glamorgan base with easy access to river fishing or wild swimming amid ancient woodland and peaceful valleys? Introducing Garth Glamping, 20 minutes’ drive from Cardiff city centre and bordering the River Taff at the foot of Garth Hill. Here you also have several fields – each framed by oak and beech – to explore, where you can exercise any four-legged pals and let the kids run around generally being kids. Helpful on-site facilities at this peaceful waterside spot include a pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure a short stroll from the pitches, and a bottled water station for refilling your flasks and coolers. You'll also have use of a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle and gas barbecue in the communal kitchen area, where there’s a full set of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and washing-up supplies – in short, everything you need for whipping up a simple supper or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. When you’re ready to explore, follow marked woodland trails or wander quiet country lanes in the surrounding farmland. Cycle hire can be arranged locally if you’re after two-wheeled adventures, but when you’d rather simply sink into a deckchair with a glass of local craft cider and listen for the tawny owls, well, that’s all good too. There’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk from the site gates, and another one, plus a few shops, in the village of Pentyrch (10 minutes’ drive).

Bell tent

Liked Beautiful, clean bell tents with lovely gentle lighting inside, potted plants and comfy beds (with clean linen, sheets, duvets and pillows).
A quiet 'festival' vibe with bunting and outdoor lights for decoration
Great gas bbq (to hire)
Friendly and knowledgeable owners
Clean toilet and shower
Outdoor kitchen with tea/coffee/ fridge and mobile phone charge points

Disliked No fresh running water (so used bottled water - provided by owners)
The free roaming farm Labrador was a bit snappy with our dog and wasn't on a lead or with any owner for a large amount of the time.

The site was simple but brilliant (if they don’t mind me saying).…

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site was simple but brilliant (if they don’t mind me saying). Peaceful, quiet, with signs of upgrades coming. Loved choosing our own pitch on a big open field. Shower and toilet facilities were excellent — the shower was well above expectations.
Looking forward to coming back soon

Disliked Satnav might take you too far down the road — I couldn’t see any sign saying ‘Garth Glamping this way,’ so keep an eye out for the green and yellow flags marking the right spot. It’s not the site’s fault, and the flags are really helpful once you see them, so still giving 10/10.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, open pitches, and especially the shower and toilet facilities.

I also really appreciate your helpful note about the satnav directions. You’re right, it can sometimes send people too far down the road. For future guests reading this: we do send everyone a text on the day of arrival with detailed directions to help avoid any confusion, and those green and yellow flags are there as an extra marker once you’re close!

Thank you again for your kind words and for giving us 10/10 despite the satnav quirk. We’d be delighted to welcome you back soon!

Luxury on a campsite above all expectations. Thank you.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Quiet site, not too busy.
Toilet and shower was amazing, proper ones and always clean
Kitchen area also amazing, it had everything there. Even a fridge and freezer for guests to use.
Owners were very friendly and helpful, with a lovely Doggy too.

Disliked A bit of an issue with the solar panels meant no power first thing in the morning, but the owners were quick to rectify it with a generator.

Lovely open space, friendly host and excellent kitchen facilities.…

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Quiet, lots of space, easy to check in. Free water bottles, decent toilet and shower.

Disliked The nearest pub isn't a 5 minute walk, it's 30/40 minutes down single lane country roads. A 5 minute drive perhaps. A long way from anything down a narrow off roading dirt track. Cardiff isn't a 10 minute drive from here. The write up is a little mis-leading.

From the manager: Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the location didn’t meet your expectations.

Unfortunately I can’t share screenshots here, but as stated in our listing, the nearest pub is a short walk from our entrance for most guests, though I appreciate it can feel longer if you’re unfamiliar with the country lanes. Similarly, Cardiff is indeed a very short drive away, but times vary depending on which side of the city you’re heading for, as the city centre is quite large, during your stay there were also very big events on in the City, again causing delays and disruptions.

We’re proud of our peaceful, rural setting and understand it may not be the right fit for someone looking for a busier or more urban experience.

Thank you again for your comments, and I wish you all the best in your future travels.

Bell tent

Liked Everything about this place is stunning and well thought out, we stayed in one of the pre-set up bell tents and the site is small for the moment but i got the impression its going to slowly be expanded upon, beautiful location and run by extremely friendly and helpful people, its "glamping" but its not over the top so it still feels like actual camping with extra comforts as opposed to an outdoor hotel (which is exactly what i would be looking for) there are train tracks very close with regular trains but they were barely noticeable and certainly not a bother, will absolutely be recommending and will be going back should the opportunity arises

Disliked a little out the way, there is a train station about a 20 min walk away and ubers can get there, not a dislike just a little awkward if you dont own your own transport and feel peckish at 11pm and didnt think to get supplies like us :P, many bugs... but its camping in the countryside so what do you expect :)

From the manager: Thank you so much for this fantastic and detailed review! I’m really happy to hear you loved the bell tent, the setting, and the balance between camping and added comforts, that’s exactly the experience we’re aiming for.

You’re right that the site is still small for now, but we do have plans to expand gradually while keeping that relaxed, intimate feel. And thank you for mentioning the trains and travel notes, it’s really helpful for other guests to know, hence the earplugs too!

I completely understand the challenges if you don’t have your own transport (and those late-night snack cravings!). Uber eats do deliver to the farm too! And yes, the bugs are definitely part of the countryside charm!

It means so much to hear you’d recommend us and would like to come back. We’d absolutely love to welcome you again anytime!

Great place to stay, fantastic view.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely location and great facilities.

Disliked Toilet and shower facilities were lovely and really clean but would have been better if there was more.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I’m really glad you enjoyed the location and our facilities!

I appreciate your feedback about wanting more toilet and shower spaces. The good news is we’re already working on this, we’re currently building two more showers and toilets, as well as another kitchen area to make things even more comfortable for our guests.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and we hope to welcome you back to see the improvements soon!

Great value, plenty of space and activities. Highly recommended!

Bell tent

Liked Brilliant little campsite with so many extras included. The owners could have easily charged double or even more for the oasis weekend but kept their prices sensible which isn't common these days. The bell tent was perfect, the beds were very comfortable. The facilities were outstanding. There was bottles of water in the fridge, tea and coffee in the kitchen, the tent had marshmallows for the fire pit, small games like Jenga and outdoor games like plastic axe throwing (I'm buying one of those for the children). The place is totally off grid but still has a fully functional toilet and shower space. An absolutely perfect place for a bit of glamping.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike its a fantastic place

From the manager: Thank you so much for this wonderful review! It truly means a lot to us. We’re thrilled you enjoyed all the little extras, the bell tent, and the facilities, we really try to make it feel special without losing the off-grid charm.

I’m so glad the kids enjoyed the games (the plastic axe throwing set is always a hit!). It’s also really encouraging to hear your kind words about our pricing, we want to keep it accessible while still offering a memorable experience.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. It was an absolute pleasure to host you, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime!

Local attractions

From your pitch, follow waymarked trails up the Garth (20 minutes’ walk) for views over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The 55-mile Taff Trail (for walkers and cyclists) passes close by too, so you can follow the scenic section to Pontypridd on largely traffic-free paths alongside the river. Heritage-lovers can tour the extraordinary Castell Coch (10 minutes’ drive), an ornate folly combining a medieval castle with Gothic-Victorian additions, or have a nose around Caerphilly Castle (15 minutes) with its drawbridges and battlements. Also well worth a visit is St Fagans National Museum of History (20 minutes), an open-air folk museum recreating Welsh life through historic buildings and crafts workshops. If the kids aren't taken with all that history, test their wits in themed escape games at Cardiff’s Puzzled Escape Rooms, or take them to Tenpin Cardiff Nantgarw (both 10 minutes) for bowling, arcade games and fast food in the diner. These also make great rainy day choices if the weather turns on you.
