Plenty of space

  • Well-maintained Anglesey pitches on a family-run working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Parys Mountain; 20 minutes to Benllech beach
  • Very short walk to local pub; five minutes' drive to Amlwch
Up at the top end of the Isle of Anglesey is generally a great place to take a peaceful holiday – but it gets even better when there’s a local pub a mere 50 yards away. And that’s the situation you’ll find yourself in when you stay at Cae Ffynnon, part of a working farm about five minutes’ drive inland from Amlwch. Pitches at this small family-run site are well maintained and well located, within easy reach of walking trails, bike paths, beaches, boat trips and the port at Holyhead (about half an hour’s drive away for those boarding a ferry to Ireland). And of course there’s that village pub a short walk away for a good feed and a welcome pint after your day out. You’ll have plenty of space to spread out on your pitch when you’re staying here, and you’ll be provided with some handy amenities including an electric hookup and picnic bench for each pitch. Shared facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids along for a stay here. Being so close to Amlwch means that you’ll have easy enough access to shops and places to eat (and the beach…) despite your peaceful immediate surroundings.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It was a peaceful, rural location and a short drive away from the coast. Fresh air and lots of bird life. Very importantly, it was cheap. The owner Len is friendly.

Disliked: The facilities need to be improved. One toilet for the whole site is not adequate and particularly in a busy period.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Back to basics site

Disliked: WiFi didn't work, one shower, one toilet, both outdated and full of spiders.
Not good for the kids.
Horses having intercourse of the kids.
Nothing nearby.
On a slope mostly so no good for ball games.
Also no hot water access.
Basically you get grass only for £21 a night. Very average.
Got to put in £ to use showers.

From the manager: Sorry you weren't happy with the site , nothing was said whilst you were on site and it appears you had no problems, shame you won't be back to see the new units completed, new showers toilets an more hot water than you could ever manage.

With minimal facilities they shouldn’t charge more than £10 per night

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely pitches, great area, friendly owner

Disliked: This spot is great for a short stay but as the washing and toilet facilities are poor I wouldn’t recommend for a longer stay unless you have your own ( motorhome etc) . I know they are working at improving them but there is only one toilet that everyone uses which is very small and this is where you also wash your face and do your teeth which is kind of gross as it’s tiny and no privacy. The shower is the same tiny and nowhere to put your things without them getting wet or falling on a wet floor. I liked the place but found navigating the toilet and getting a wash really difficult.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Site was quiet.

Disliked: The toilet/ shower/ washing up facilities were completely inadequate and frankly quite disgusting. There was 1 toilet, 1 shower and 1 sink for washing up. The toilet had no area for drying hands and was not clean. The shower was coin operated and the hot water intermittent. It was not a clean area either. A kettle was provided to supply hot water for the washing up as there was no running hot water in this area. It was not particularly clean either. As the campsite was not full at the time we stayed, we did not have to queue for the toilet/ washing facilities but if it had been more in season then I can imagine this would be very frustrating. Considering this, I feel that the charge made per night was very overpriced even allowing for the electric hookup. I would not be recommending this campsite.

From the manager: Sorry to read you're not happy with the site after going home, you didn't mention anything while on the site. I would have shown you the new showers and toilets which we hope to be completed by Easter and you could have had a full refund on arrival before leaving.

Local attractions

A trip to Anglesey is usually all about the outdoor activities, and you’ll be well placed for those with a stay here. A drive of a little over five minutes will get you to a fishing spot at Llyn Alaw or a challenging but scenic round at Bull Bay Golf Club. Boats also head out from Amlwch harbour (five minutes’ drive) for sea fishing or just a bit of coastal sightseeing. There’s plenty of sightseeing to do on land too, whether you head out on the Anglesey Coast Path or aim for Parys Mountain (10 minutes’ drive) for a fabulous stroll through the colourful landscapes left behind by an ancient copper mine. The Copper Kingdom Centre (five minutes) will give you further insight into this aspect of the island’s past. And what about when you’d just like to sit on the beach, thanks very much? There’s a small stretch of sand at Amlwch, but you’d be better off heading to Lligwy (15 minutes), Church Bay (20 minutes) or Benllech (20 minutes) if you’re planning to spend a whole day swimming and sandcastle building.
