Walks from the pitches

  • Pop-up site 10 minutes’ drive from Beddgelert in Eryri National Park
  • Yr Wyddfa 15 minutes’ walk and Betws-y-Coed half an hour’s drive
  • Off-grid wilderness site; dogs are welcome and campfires allowed
When you’re trying to get far, far away from the madding crowd, do it North Wales style. Take yourself off to Ffridd Llyndy Isaf, a tiny and low-maintenance site on a National Trust-owned farm in the middle of Eryri (formerly Snowdonia) National Park. While facilities really are of the wild camping variety – a non-drinking water tap and a loo in a wooden hut – the views from the peaceful pitches looking over to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and Llyn Dinas are simply stunning. In such a remote spot, you’ll also have to forgo showers, electricity and wifi, but that’s a small inconvenience when you’re in such a dramatic setting. You can also look forward to colourful sunsets and dazzling celestial displays on clear evenings as you sit around your campfire – buy food for barbecues in Beddgelert (10 minutes’ drive). You have a choice of many walks from the pitches, and there’s easy access to the Watkin Path (to the summit of Yr Wyddfa) 10 minutes’ drive away; dogs are welcome on site and they’ll certainly get a decent stretch of their paws. There’s just one rule, really: guests are expected to respect the land, take their rubbish with them and leave the site exactly as they found it.

What customers say

This site offers a peaceful wild camping experience with great views and is ideal for hiking. However, some visitors found the walk from the car to the pitch inconvenient. One reviewer had a very negative experience, encountering limited flat space and waterlogged pitches, leading to an early departure.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location is very close to Snowden, allowing me to get up early and get free parking. You could also leave your car and walk directly to the Watkins path from the campsite, if staying multiple nights.. the camp site has a nice toilet, although bring your own toilet paper. There is a bothy that you can book and stay in, I didn’t go in but looked nice. The view from the campsite was lovely and the campsite is clean and tidy.

Disliked The place is well signposted but it’s hard to know where you are allowed to take your car as there was a closed gate, you go through the gate and up the hill and you will eventually find a small car park. Park there and walk up a small hill to the campsite, you’ll know it’s there because you will see the bothy.

Would be good if the reeds were removed but it wasn’t too bad

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked I came to this campsite for my birthday and it was everything as advertised. It was beautiful, peaceful and the owners were lovely. It's connected to the lake so a beautiful walk and the scenery is wonderful. We had a fabulous time and will return with our children.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great, quiet site. Practically wild camping in the overflow camping area. Loved that you could pitch wherever. Part of the fun walking around to find where you want to pitch.
Great toilet, stream running through the field, friendly sheep. Decent parking once you manage to get up the hill.

Lots of friendly people who were just after a quiet time.

I only stayed one night as just wanted a base for the night before I summited Snowdon. But will happily stay again.

Disliked The track up to the car park was not ideal. I wasn’t sure if I could drive up the hill and go through the gate. So left car and walked with my kit to the site.
A few more signs explaining where to park may have been helpful and meant that I gave it a bit more speed to get up the hill instead of cautiously trying to get up the hill then nearly burning out my clutch.
My fault completely but a sign may have helped.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked It’s a tiny campsite so relatively quiet. The views were lovely no matter where you camped.
It had a decent loo, just bring your own roll!

Disliked There’s no one upholding the rules, one guy camped in the carpark and another parked his scooter by his tent.
Precheck the location whilst you have phone signal as it’s not well sign posted, for good reason!

Scenic site. Fire pits are on site.

Disliked Road not maintained and road conditions is not mentioned anywhere. Can't park before the gates as private property.
Sloped. No where to put tent on flat bit so turned around and left.
