  • Easy access from the main road; fabulous estuary and sea views
What a setting – and what a view… A little way up a hill about five minutes’ drive from Aberdovey, Dyfi WildCamping is a gorgeously green location with views out over both the Dyfi river and the Gwynedd coastline. With views as good as this, it’s likely you’ll need little else to create a memorable place to stay. And with that in mind, this site has been kept very simple on the facilities front – there are no showers or drinking water points here, but there is a portable toilet and most people can get a 5G service on their phone to help keep in touch with the wider world (should you want to, that is…). Fittingly for a wild camping site, this is a laidback place that welcomes families, small groups and dogs. There’s plenty of flat, sheltered space to go around as well, so you’ll be able to set up your pitch as you like it – perhaps with an awning, a gazebo, a barbecue and a couple of camping chairs so you can admire the scenery in comfort. To keep things peaceful and safe, there’s no parking by the pitches, so just make sure you’ll be able to carry everything you need. The chilled-out atmosphere and fabulous views here mean that you may well feel like you're well away from all the trappings of modern life – but in fact you’ll easily be able to get out and about when you want to, as the site is just off the A493, which can take you to Aberdovey and Tywyn on the coast or inland to Machynlleth.

Local attractions

As well as being close to the coast, this site is also in the southern part of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, so there are plenty of active options around on land and water. You could start with the five-minute walk to a secluded estuary beach, or head to Aberdovey (five minutes’ drive) for a beach, a golf course and activities including watersports and crabbing. Elsewhere along the coast, you could head to Tywyn (15 minutes) for another beach and a ride on the Talyllyn Railway, head round to the dunes of Ynyslas National Nature Reserve (40 minutes) or find a section of the Wales Coast Path for a walk. Inland brings a whole heap more options, including thrilling downhill trails at Dyfi Bike Park (15 minutes), the chance to see big birds at the Dyfi Osprey Project (25 minutes) and some lovely shopping at Corris Craft Centre (25 minutes). There are plenty of great walks around too, including a particularly lovely circular trail around Dolgoch Falls (25 minutes).
