  • Spacious touring pitches at a quiet Flintshire farm site
  • Chester and the North Wales coast both 20 minutes' drive away
  • Village less than a mile away for a shop, café and two pubs
Fancy some Flintshire fresh air, with the chance to mix your countryside days up with city and coast outings too? Set off to Sandy Lane Farm, home to a spacious touring site just outside the little village of Higher Kinnerton. This location, almost on the Wales/England border, is a nicely rural one, with a peaceful atmosphere on site but easy access to the village (less than a mile away) for a shop, a café, a post office and a couple of pubs. Mold and Wrexham are both about 20 minutes’ drive away on the Welsh side of the border, but the big urban day out around here is Chester, over in England but also about 20 minutes’ drive away. The surrounding countryside offers up all sorts of outdoor activities, including walks, watersports and highly scenic games of golf, and there's also the option of getting up to the coast for seaside walks and beach days. In between all these outings, you’ll be staying at a quiet dog-friendly site with spacious pitches and access to essential facilities including toilets, showers, a chemical disposal point and picnic tables for your outdoor meals.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: I recently stayed at Sandy lane farm campsite and really enjoyed it. The owners, Les and Mandy are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home from the moment i arrived. The campsite itself is very quiet, providing a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I experienced the new born lambs which was a highlight.

There is plenty to do in the local area, with various activities and attractions to keep everyone entertained. It is a 15 mins drive to Chester and locally (8mins drive) there is Broughton retail park with shopping, restaurant's and cinema. 10 mins walk away are 2 great pubs and a local shop.

The facilities at the campsite are adequate, offering everything you need for a comfortable stay, they are well-maintained and clean.

Additionally, the pricing is very reasonable, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious travellers. Overall, I highly recommend this campsite for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway but plenty on the doorstep.

Site is within easy walking distance of Kinnerton around 15 minutes gets you to the choice of two pubs offering food The Royal Oak or The Swan inn, the trendy Walters dog cafe and a local convenience store.
Plenty of dog walking possibilities from site. A relaxed and peaceful site with Spacious pitches and a Very friendly welcome from Les. The site is small so has a basic unisex toilet and shower room which is clean and functional. We will definitely be returning soon.

Disliked: Nothing.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Pub nearby. The Royal Oak. Quiet working farm. Friendly seasonal pitchers.

Disliked: Toilet "block" was a combined single unisex toilet and wet floor shower room/hit. A simple brick hut outhouse. Victorians would have been proud of it and some of the farm yard animals too. It was disgusting.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Quiet location. Plenty of mains electric hook ups. Friendly welcome. Lots of hot water in wash room. Good value for money. Easy ways to pay if you have no cash on you. Three minutes away in the car, The Royal Oak. Cask ales and good food. (1.25 miles to walk).

Disliked: Not so much "Disliked", more "possible improvements":
1. Improved signage. Says its a campsite on the gate, but easy to miss that from the road. Hard to turn around if you miss it with a van hitched up.
2. Wash block is for one person at a time. No problem for me, but in summer there could be a queue.
3. Some gravel road ways / standing - though I would the owner to increase prices if this were made available.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly welcome and secure site well off main road with metal 'five-bar' gate controlling access.

Quiet and level grass pitches.

Fair price for location, space of pitch and access to shared Toilet/Shower.

Easy 15 minutes walk to The Royal Oak Pub which offers reasonable food at not too an expensive price. Pub also has a Restuarant.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very peaceful and quiet. Large field with plenty of space easy to drive into. Nice flat walk to the village about 15-20 minutes. Take a torch as half route is on unlit road. Ideal location for Chester and area. The owner was welcoming and helpful.

Disliked: Only one shower and toilet but clean and spacious.

Local attractions

Being only a few miles from Chester (20 minutes’ drive) brings with it all sorts of excellent options for days out, including city walks around the cathedral and city walls (the oldest and most complete in Britain and then the chance to see it all in brightly coloured miniature at Chester in Lego. A little way outside the city centre are Chester Racecourse, Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks and the popular Chester Zoo. Back out in the countryside, there are plenty of great places for walks, including Alyn Waters Country Park (15 minutes) or Nercwys Forest (25 minutes), and some fun activities like axe throwing, paddleboarding and art workshops at Park in the Past (10 minutes). Rack and Ruin Alpacas (20 minutes) is another lovely local spot, offering the chance to take a woolly friend for a walk. The North Wales coast isn’t far off, either, so you might like to head over there for a day at the beach in Rhyl (40 minutes), stopping off at waterside Flint Castle (20 minutes) on the way.
