  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
  • Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location was very near New Quay and in a lovely area

Disliked: We arrived on site and went to reception. We were given our pitch which had shared EHU with 3/4 other pitches which made things difficult. the field was extremely unlevel so we spent the night rolling from one side of the bed to the other.
We booked for the sea view but were given a pitch across the field so asked to move (spaces were available) and we were just told no with no explanation, we were actually dealt with by 2 young kids.

We were most put out by having to pay £1 for a timed shower even though we had paid £100 near enough for 3 nights in our own accommodation in a field.
We then had to leave early as my daughter had to be taken to hospital and we messaged about our 2 remaining nights enquiring about a possible partial refund. We were again given no explanation and just told no, then we had our booking cancelled so we were unable to return or pass our booking onto a friend so they could at least use it as our hard earned money was just taken.

From the manager: It is so frustrating when people print downright lies! On arrival these two persons where greeted with extreme politeness by the site manager (our daughter) who is 35 years old and definitely not a young kid! Yet they were the grumpiest couple ever! The ehu's, as clearly explained to these two, are NOT shared. Each pitch has its own supply which is located on one post. It is the post that is shared-not the electricity supply. Despite this they still complained! Rolling one side of the bed to another-twaddle! This couple did NOT request a sea view on their booking but had been allocated a huge pitch with a glorious sea view anyway but they still asked to move. Normally we would accommodate any such request without hesitation but, being a bank holiday, we were fully booked!
The showers are from 20p up to a maximum of £1 depending upon how long you require. We used to provide free showers but this caused multiple problems with people washing clothes, washing wet suits, washing dishes, washing dogs and much much more. Not only this but customers would take advantage, and spend a long, long time using them creating queues and causing frustration to other customers.
For whatever reason, they decided that our site was not for them and decided to try and receive a refund by showing us a picture of a sad faced daughter telling us she had broken her foot. Even if this were true-which we doubt-not exactly a life threatening emergency as you might get the impression from the comments. We were texted by this couple who asked re the possibility of a refund. A polite message was sent back to remind them of the policy as detailed in Pitchup. They replied "O'k no worries, thanks". If they had asked to pass on the booking to a friend we would have happily agreed but no such request was made-what a load of twaddle.
This couple booked 3 nights over a bank holiday preventing any other potential customers booking the pitch. They decided for some unknown reason our site was not for them and chose to leave-they cancelled the booking, NOT us!
We would argue that from start to finish, we received a negative approach from this couple who, in our opinion, felt 'entltled' wanting the best of everything, forgetting the whole ethos of camping.

Liked: Beautiful picturesque site where the owners are fantastic, lovely people who can’t do enough for you. Great walks and scenery surrounding this site.
Perfectly clean amenities all very modern and very well kept.

Disliked: More pointers for other visitors than actual dislikes.
£1 for 10 min shower
Very windy as on top of a hill
Steep walk back if venturing off the site on foot which some people would find hard to do.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: A very pleasant campsite with views looking out to sea! We had a lovely corner plot with beautiful views! Shower and toilet facilities were immaculate and water lovely and hot!
A friendly lady showed us around!
Walking the road way into New Quay was about 25 mins, coastal path about 40 mins!
Would stay again!

Disliked: The only dislike would be was that we had to leave at 10.30am! It would have been nice to have stayed and walked into New Quay and left late morning! 😊

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: 10/10 stay! Showers and toilets are immaculately clean! Very quiet site. Owner was so lovely and accommodating. Our fridge broke in our campervan on the first night here, the owner and his son were happy to help and gave us a cool box with fresh ice packs each day. Very kind and lovely family. We will definitely come back!

Liked: Awesome views, friendly check in, clean (and I mean clean!) facilities and hot showers.
Loved hearing the sheep in the next field and the owl at night.

Disliked: No heating in the bathroom meaning post shower was freezing to change in.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: What a wonderful site! Owners were extremely friendly and helpful - Greeted us when we arrived and personally showed us to our spot and around the facilities. Deposit is made on pitchup site, rest paid on site - Either by cash or by bank transfer which was super helpful. Communication before arrival also great - We received directions which made the journey much easier!
Site has a wash up room and male/female toilets and showers which were incredibly clean and tidy. Remember to bring pound coins for the shower - You get 10 minutes on a timer, with a 1 minute delay to allow you to get in to the cubicle. Electric shower so nice and hot!
Water points dotted around the site and very easy to access.
We LOVED the dog park! It's an enclosed area where dogs can run free, our spaniel absolutely loved it. He's an escapee so this was amazing piece of mind that he could have a run and sniff about without bothering anyone/the sheep in the neighbouring fields. Such a fantastic idea, right next to the children's play park if you have both!
Really lovely 30 minute walk into town to shops and food- Owner gave us some pointers on the paths to use.
Incredible views over the sea, the sky was gorgeous too - Sunset was amazing and you could see the stars really clearly.
Plots were spaced apart well, there was only one other person there with us but even if it had been full, it would not feel crowded.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely four nights spent at Tyr Ffynnon farm, and great views of the sea and countryside from both pitches we stayed on, pitch 8 and 14! Really helpful owner and welcoming, even sent text message updates before arriving about the location. Good toilet/shower facilities, you do have to pay £1 for the shower but that's for 10 minutes and definitely worth it. Even better was how peaceful the site was this time of year :)

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
