Quiet season nice pitches and great for dog

  • Peaceful pitches a mile from Aberystwyth town centre
  • A 10-minute drive from Borth beach; 20 minutes from Devil's Bridge
  • Easy access from main roads; dogs welcome
Make the most of Ceredigion’s countryside and set your compass to Bryncarnedd Caravan Park, a mile outside of Aberystwyth town centre. It is indeed a splendid spot here on what was once a busy dairy farm, and handily you’ll be well set for getting into town for shops, restaurants and attractions when you want them. These days, this place has been transformed into a peaceful caravan park with holiday lets in the surrounding old farm buildings. Dogs are welcome to join you on the pitches here – there are plenty of places to take them (or yourselves) for a walk on local pathways. Easy access to the local main roads (A44 and A487) means that it’s straightforward to get out and about for the area’s many activities and attractions, be they beaches, birdwatching, bike riding or exploring the area around Devils Bridge (waterfalls and cool bridges included). Back on site, though, there are well-maintained facilities, including a play area, washing-up area, chemical disposal point and modern bathroom block with toilets and showers to rinse off after a full-on day of adventuring.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Toilet and shower facilities were amazing - hot and very clean! It was pretty quiet on site which was nice.

Disliked: Pitched feel quite close together but our neighbouring pitch were a lovely family so didn’t both us! Wasnt much to do, walking wise around the site that felt safe to walk to. Roads nearby had no pavements but if we were feeling braver it would have been great to walk into Aberystwyth!

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Quiet campsite, clean, great location close to Aberystwyth but also in the countryside. Great views to mountains. Easy and flexible check-in. Pitches level and close to water taps. Excellent phone signal. Toilets well stocked.

Disliked: The tourers are located at the bottom of an incline, and it’s a bit of a way back up the incline to the grey & black water disposal and toilets & showers. The water disposal grates are both raised off the ground so it’s pretty impossible to lift a full wastemaster high enough. The drinking water taps aren’t well signposted, and are across grass which was a problem when we visited as it was very muddy. Pitches not big enough for car and (tiny) caravan.

Liked: Heated toilets and showers. Always clean.

Disliked: Not the site but the last bit of the road walk back from Aberystwyth with no pavement. Only a couple of hundred yards but lots of traffic.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Clean, modern showers and toilets easily accessible and well prepared pitches. An ideal place to stay if you enjoy camping/glamping and you want to visit with a family member or friend studying at the university.

Disliked: It was disconcerting not to speak to a person on arrival or departure but everything was well signposted and straightforward. It would be good to have a drive over motorhome grey water disposal point.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The actual pitches were good, and the area they were situated in was acceptable, however we were a bit dismayed with the appearance of the site as you first drive on, and the lack of clarification as to where to park - we did eventually find a sign which told us to use pitch 1 - 11 however no signage to say where to find the pitches.

Disliked: On entering the site, the appearance gave the impression of a traveller site with many seasonal tourers which looked as if they'd been there years, and a converted double decker bus. There was no signage to say where the showers etc were situated, and the ones we found were quite basic in a porta cabin, we did find an alternative which were a bit better later in our stay - the water was hot which was a bonus. There was no staff available to ask about siting, toilets and showers etc - in fact the site was empty and we never saw anyone during our stay

Local attractions

Once you’ve got your bearings, you’ll want to get clued up on exactly what’s close by. Aberystwyth (five minutes’ drive) has a castle, cliff railway and the nostalgic Vale of Rheidol Railway, while Borth beach (10 minutes) will sort out swimming, surfing, fishing, sailing and windsurfing fans. For walks surrounded by pleasant coastal scenery, the Ynyslas beach and nature reserve (15 minutes) is a sure bet for that sort of stuff, while the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (15 minutes) has plenty of walks or bike trails in a forest setting instead. There's also red kite feeding activities to mix things up a little there. Put your smarts to the test… you’ll find a few things to wrap your head around at the Centre for Alternative Technology (35 minutes). Meanwhile, Corris Craft Centre (35 minutes) will be a test of your artistic skills instead, while the Silver Mountain Experience (20 minutes) has escape rooms and tours around a Victorian mine. And what about King Arthur's Labyrinth (40 minutes), where re-enactments and boat tours bring the legends to life? Handily, with your guide, you shouldn't get too lost inside the Snowdonia mountains…
