  • Small, family-run wildlife haven 12 miles from Aberystwyth
  • Tregaron and Cors Caron nature reserve about 10 minutes' drive
  • Friendly owners, dog-walking area and clean amenities
Ever been to the Aeron valley near Aberystwyth? It's really rather lush – so much so that local lyricist Dylan Thomas named his daughter Aeronwy after the river here (what a poetic parent). The valley's a birdwatching haven that amateur ornithologists flock to, although you won't have to stir far to see local flyers if you stay at small family-run Aeron View Camping… the park is often frequented by red kites. If you'd like to see them, guests can ask at the house. Owners Sue and Alex oversee this wildlife-lover's site, which has all the essentials (including a washing-up area, toilets and showers) plus a few added extras like a dedicated dog-walking area (with free biodegradable bags available at reception to pick up any canine deposits).

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: First impression was ok, we arrived at 7.40pm, but weren't greeted by anyone. There was a chalk board informing us of our pitch along with an information leaflet. (There wasnt a site map on the leaflet, but we eventually located our pitch and got hooked up to the electricity supply with ease.

Disliked: On the pitch up site it states that there are showers and toilets available, which was key to us as we do not have access to the facilities in our hired campervan. Unfortunately, both amenities were not accessible due to being locked. Huge disappointment, certaibly with 2 young children.

Perhaps it is fair to say it is out of season, but in that case perhaps a note she be made to state basic facilities are not available outside of season.

I do not think this site offered value for money

From the manager: The shower and toilet are open in our family room that is also a disabled facility and is heated.

The wash up is available under cover and is also open.

The customer could have rang the door bell and asked at any time during his stay.

We wrote his pitch on the board as he arrived after 7.30pm and had not given us an estimated time of arrival. so we thought if we missed him he would know where to park and then knock the door.

We have showers and toilets that are locked due to the freezing conditions but we have a heated shower toilet and wash up for the limited number of customers we have at this time.

Pleasent stay & owners were very accommodating to your every need.

Local attractions

What lovely land this is… in a river valley close to the coast and full of options for walks, wildlife and birdwatching, coarse and game fishing and heaps of Welsh history… If you're here for nature, start off at Cors Caron, a nearby reserve on 2,000 acres of bog built up from thousands of years' worth of peat layers. It's well known for its wildlife, especially winter migrating birds, grassland birds and adders, and otters around the River Teifi, which runs at various points in and around the reserve. Welsh history? Four miles to Aeron View Camping's south west lies the 13th-century market town of Tregaron and home of the Welsh Gold Centre (if you're around in summer, get into town for the Tregaron 'Trotian' event – horse trotting and carriage racing). The Dolaucothi Gold Mines, first delved into by the Romans, are within 15 miles. Finally, make time for at least a day in excellent Aberystwyth, 12 miles to the north west from Aeron View, for at least one trip on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill for a fab vista of Cardigan Bay.
