After somewhere romantic for a celebration (or just because)? Then amble over to Airhouses, a special site in the Scottish Borders with plush pods and private hot tubs set in 633 acres of scenic farmland.
The cosy units here come with access to a personal barbecue hut – for grilling grub whatever the weather – and bedding is provided as well. There’s also a galley kitchen for prepping meals made from local produce bought in the small farm shop, along with a wetroom including a washbasin, loo and heated rail.
Extra warmth comes from the underfloor heating and infrared panel heater, and bathrobes, slippers and towels are supplied to make hot tub dips even dreamier…
As you might already have gathered, it’s all about the details at this park: mood lighting sets the scene for evenings in and USB charging points, plus an iPod docking station, speakers and wifi, mean your phone will be fully set up for playing ambient tunes. Film nights are possible thanks to the 24-inch Smart TV and DVD player, and there’s also a selection of books and board games to busy yourselves with.
Set off on slow strolls hand-in-hand around the farm during the daytime, greeting the ponies, alpacas, llama, chickens and pigs as you go; in the mornings, switch on the Nespresso coffee machine in your pod and ponder what pursuits to potter towards in the local area – the park’s at the top end of the Scottish Borders, a 40-minute drive from Edinburgh, so it’s a nifty spot for exploring Scotland's south.

This park’s made for making memories, with walks aplenty close to home as well as beaches, abbeys and castles under an hour away by car.
When you’re not indulging in the hot tub, traipse along the 1.25-mile town trail at Lauder (10 minutes’ drive) to learn all about local history. Thirlestane Castle, one of Scotland’s designated ‘Great Houses’, is in this settlement as well – swing by to stare at the 17th-century ceilings and see a selection of toys from the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Here to roam? You’ll be in good company: the area’s a firm favourite of hikers as the Southern Upland Way long-distance trail runs beside Lauder.
Don't miss Edinburgh (40 minutes) during your trip; Scotland's capital is well worth visiting for ambles around The Royal Mile to admire the ace architecture.
