  • Scenic family-friendly site in the stunning Scottish Borders
  • Jedburgh, Galashiels within 30 mins' drive; Edinburgh within an hour
  • Golf course, putting green, bar-restaurant, playground, woodland walks
Craving spectacular scenery and a peaceful stay far from the edge of nowhere? Head along to Lilliardsedge Holiday Park, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the Scottish town of Jedburgh and 25 from the shops and restaurants of Galashiels. At Lilliardsedge, there’s more than 100 acres of scenic Scottish Borders to explore on site, with grassy fields and natural woodland walks giving guests plenty of ground to cover, and a nine-hole golf course and 18-hole putting green enticing budding Ryder Cup players to take in the views from the links. Of course, it’s very much worth going on some broader explores hereabouts to make the absolute most of that stunning Borders country – wander off site to stroll around nearby lochs or pick up the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way long-distance route just five minutes away for viewsome rambles through the region. Stay energised for all this adventuring and club swinging by calling in to the Tavern (the onsite bar-restaurant) for lunch, dinner and Sunday carvery, or to have a few quiet (locally brewed) pints, and stick around on weekend nights for bands, bingo, karaoke and pub quizzes.

What customers say

Visitors praise the spacious, clean camping fields with beautiful views, and the friendly, helpful staff. On-site facilities, including the restaurant, shop, and entertainment, are highly regarded. However, some guests experienced issues with the camping shower facilities, finding them difficult to use and occasionally lacking hot water. Noise from other campers and nearby roads was also a concern for a few visitors.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Pitch area was great. Park was nice and you could get food and drinks. Good camp for visiting other areas. Clean facilities, toilets and shower.

Disliked I paid for 2 pitches and put one tent up and took the grandchildren for dinner, came back and there were tents on either side of me very close so had to put tents in front of each other so may as well have paid for one pitch. May need to mark out areas for pitches. Some people had music on and were drinking until 2am in the morning not good for the children.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Location. Nice big empty field near by for the dog.

Disliked Free for all on pitches, ment a lot of unused space. Don’t arrive late or your struggle to get a spot. Allocated pitched would be much better and ensure all space is used.

Not enough toilets for the volume of people. Were really unclean and ran out of toilet paper early on the Sunday.

Noise from the caravan site was loud and doesn’t go off untill after midnight, listening to the soft thump thump of music wasn’t fun.

Some very disrespectful guests, making a lot of noise with some colourful language untill 3am and were very rude to those campers who asked them to keep quiet. Not very family friendly. I know the campsite can’t control guests but a patrol of some kind would be good.

Site restaurant capitalises on the fact there is nothing near by.. £15 for a frozen oven pizza was unexpected.
Price for a pitch was ok, but I would expect services to better.

From the manager: Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent camping experience. We always appreciate feedback, as it provides us with an opportunity to reflect and engage in spirited discussion about our offerings.

Firstly, let me address your point about the pitches. It seems you may have misread the landscape of our campsite – there’s ample space available for all campers to set up their home away from home. Our free-for-all approach permits guests to pitch where they please, which most guests seem to enjoy doing in groups, creating a sense of community. Who wouldn’t want the freedom to camp next to friends, right?

As for the toilets, I assure you, we have more than enough facilities to accommodate our guests. I believe there are two well-marked toilet buildings, which you could have located on the map issued to you upon check-in. Perhaps a little exploration would have enhanced your experience. We aim for cleanliness, and I’m sorry to hear that you encountered issues. Toilet paper management is indeed a challenge when some guests seem to think it should be used as confetti.

Now, regarding our restaurant and the culinary delights we offer, it’s quite surprising to read your comments about frozen oven pizzas. In reality, our pizzas are hand-rolled and made fresh to order. If you received a frozen pizza, we’ll certainly investigate that! But let’s be honest, a gourmet pizza made to your liking at a campsite – who could have expected such luxury?

Your remarks about noise levels are interesting to note. While we strive to maintain a peaceful environment, our campsite does have a lively and festive atmosphere, especially during peak times. The caravan site, as you noted, tends to enjoy its own celebrations. It’s all part of the camping experience! But thank you for your input on encouraging polite behavior among fellow campers; it’s a noble thought. As for security, we do have staff patrolling the area, and I’m pleased to inform you that past reviews during your stay have applauded their efforts, proving that some vacationers actually appreciate the extra level of care and safety.

Lastly, pricing can vary based on location and demand – and yes, we may operate with the understanding that excellent value sometimes comes at a premium. After all, who doesn't love a big, tasty pizza after a day of outdoor adventure, even if it's a little more than expected?

We hope this email adds clarity to your concerns and perhaps offers a bit of insight into the joys of camping with us. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to potentially welcoming you back for another unique camping adventure, filled with camaraderie and the sounds of nature (and music) all around!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Nice site, easy access. Unallocated space for camping so able to bring what you like and park next to the tent.

Disliked The showers were annoying and on some showers I can see how they could be a slip hazard. You have to push the button by the sink and then the shower which if you have a sink on the right the button is right over by the door. The shower lasts about 15-20 seconds before turning off unless you keep pushing the button. Inevitably while soaping up you end up missing it.

Non-electric grass trailer tent pitch

Liked Great amenities at the park. Nice flat ground to pitch tent. Toilet and showers cleaned daily. Friendly staff. Good playground for children. When we were there children could use a bouncy castle and slide for free. Nice bar and restaurant area.

Disliked Showers cutting off due to push button system. You need to push a button over the sink then at the shower which allows water to run for about a minute.
There was a quiz night when we stayed but you needed to be in a team of 6 to enter. They should allow any size of team to take part.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whiskey for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whiskey museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
