  • Peaceful holiday park with fantastic views of Ben Nevis and beyond
  • A five-minute drive from Fort William and the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre
  • Great Glen Way within a 25-minute walk; wifi available on site
The highlight of a trip to the Highlands and Islands? Feasting your eyes on the UK’s tallest mountain range – and that’s exactly what you can do the whole time you’re settling in at the scenic (and aptly named) Ben Nevis Holiday Park. This well-maintained site in Scotland, set by the River Lochy and with lots of green space for kids to play and grownups to wander, also looks out across the Aonach Mor mountains. It makes a brill base for day trips by car, bike, train or foot in the Lochaber area as it’s just over five minutes’ drive from the centre of Fort William. Cycling and walking paths are close to this park – including the famed Great Glen Way along the Caledonian Canal (25 minutes’ stroll) – and a selection of shops and restaurants is just down the road. If you’d prefer not to venture far from base to gather supplies, a store on site sells the basics, camping supplies and local produce, while a café and takeaway serve up a range of light bites and drinks. Other conveniences at this thoughtfully run park include electric hook-ups, a coin-operated laundry room, clean toilets and showers, and laundry amenities. Families and groups are warmly welcomed here for hiking hols (or restful trips).

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Close to Fort William

Disliked: Pitch was small for £40 a night. Surrounded on three sides by road, one of which, the main road through the campsite was only a couple of feet from our van. Felt like a goldfish bowl, no privacy. Showers switched off every few seconds which was frustrating. No hairdryer in ladies. Staff gave wrong details of bus service to Fort William.

Liked: Facilities were clean and well kept, and the site was very quiet .

Disliked: Pitch space quite small glad I never took my awning as this would not have fit on space provided. Could only just fit windbreak.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The toilet block was clean and modern - the site is in a good location and offers great views of Ben Nevis.

Disliked: The showers are only on for a few seconds - could do with being on for at least 30 seconds to a minute.

The cleaning times are a little early and there is no option of an alternative during those times (9am - 10am is prime time for a shower).

Liked: Pizza
Convenient spot for stop off
Nice flat pitches with screening hedges

Disliked: Closing showers at 10am for cleaning - just when you want to get ready to go out. We’re on holiday and want a slow start
Showers needing constant button pressing
Toilets running out of paper
Speed bumps poorly marked and viscous- even at dead slow hit towbar
No wifi on pitch

Local attractions

The owners reckon there’s something for everyone around this site, but walkers and cyclists are especially sorted when it comes to activities. If you’re up for a trek, challenge yourself to one of the trails up Ben Nevis, getting intel on which ones to tackle at the mountain range’s visitor centre, just over five minutes’ drive away. If you’re after a lazier lope, amble along the Caledonian Canal from the locks at Neptune's Staircase (25 minutes’ walk) or get your RDA of exercise by nipping in and out of the shops of Fort William (five minutes’ drive). The town has plenty of stores selling mountaineering kit if you need equipment to try out the more intense pursuits – think skiing and downhill biking – available in the area. For a family day out, make your way to the Glenfinnan Viaduct (25 minutes’ drive) and see if the kids recognise it from the Harry Potter films – the Hogwarts Express was filmed crossing this oh-so-scenic bridge. Saving perhaps the best activity till last, top off your trip by paying a visit to the whisky makers at the Ben Nevis Distillery (15 minutes’ walk) for a few drams of one of Scotland’s finest exports.
