  • Friendly adults-only site with views over the Firth of Forth estuary
  • A five-minute drive from the coast and 20 minutes from St Andrews
  • On-site restaurant with homecooked food; good public transport links
Aiming to get away to the scenic East Neuk of Fife or St Andrews’ home of golf? With views over the Firth of Forth estuary, Monturpie Caravan Park might fit the bill nicely. This family-owned adults-only site is just five minutes’ drive from Scotland's east coast (including the Fife Coastal Path), with the university town of St Andrews 20 minutes’ drive to the north. A friendly atmosphere runs freely here and pitches are well spaced out to provide plenty of peace. For more homely vibes, you’ll have the option of sampling homecooked food and baked goods in the site’s small licensed restaurant (open from Wednesday to Saturday between late morning and mid-afternoon). Other facilities include a heated toilet, shower block and a launderette with disabled facilities. Public transport’s a champ here, as links from the site entrance include express coaches to Edinburgh and Glasgow or local buses to nearby walking havens. Of course, Fife is a mecca for golf fans too and this area doesn’t disappoint, as there are a couple of golf courses five minutes’ drive away. When you feel like just letting your feet take you somewhere instead, the local village is 10 minutes’ walk away. It’s home to a small food shop and a popular hotel with quality meals (yes please, steak night and Sunday roasts). Foodie spots pull through elsewhere too, as there are a number of good-quality restaurants a short drive away, including a Michelin-starred place.

Liked: Showers were perfect. Bathroom clean. And owners were just lovely lovely people.

Disliked: Just felt like I was plonked in a field. The owners were lovely but just were never around after they got you on site making very hard to pay.

From the manager: Hi Paula , Many thanks for your feedback and delighted that you found all facilities perfect and considered the family lovely people to deal with . As you were staying for four days priority was to provide a pitch with best views which I felt I did in this case . With regards to issue of finding it very difficult to pay and never around I find this strange and can only apologise . Last weekend as it was easter we were fully booked and I felt that I was never off site ,cleaning toilets ,bin emptying constant welcoming people on site etc with my mobile phone contact available at all times . In addition all the family including grandchildren were involved to hiding eggs all round the site for visitors to find and we opened our wee restaurant specially on easter sunday for our visitors running a raffle with lovely prizes including an easter hamper with all proceeds going to cancer research .Hopefuly you will consider a return visit where you will be made most welcome .

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: It is a nice peaceful site, the facilities are clean and well looked after, the site is well lit at night but we were still able to see the beautiful dark night sky and the stars. The views were wonderful. The owner was friendly and chatty. We didn’t get the chance to try the cafe/restaurant as we were only there for a brief overnight stay, but will definitely be back to try it out.
It was easy to find and we would recommend.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Tranquil site, facilities were very clean, warm and everything worked perfectly. Stunning views across the Firth of Forth. A warm welcome from the owner who made sure we had all the information we needed about the surrounding area.

Disliked: It was hard to find as the postcode covers a wide area, however, the reservation message does warn about this so we should have realised earlier. Following Google Maps worked very well though.

Local attractions

So, St Andrews (20 minutes’ drive) has caught your eye, but where will you descend upon first? Golf games don’t get much more historic than the Old Course (20 minutes) and those of you who are fully into your golfing lifestyle might want to peep into the golf museum in the town. Perhaps Craigtoun Country Park (20 minutes) might be your cup of tea, especially for picnics, playgrounds and walking trails. And how about somewhere a little more remote? The walking trails at Lomond Hills Regional Park (35 minutes) or Loch Leven (50 minutes) are a good shout for relaxation. You’ll get to go wildlife spotting at the same time, especially since Loch Leven is a nature reserve (and many of the trails are cycle-friendly so you can cover plenty of ground). Scotland’s Secret Bunker (15 minutes) is certainly pretty underground, in the literal sense too, as this Cold War bunker has been turned into a museum. And for another historic hidey hole, you'll want to head to Kellie Castle (15 minutes) for its arts and crafts garden and exhibitions.
