Stunning location for camping
Stunning views

  • Spacious parkland with views over the Solway Firth and Lake District
  • A 20-minute drive from Scotland's most southerly golf course
  • Play area, arcade and miniature golf on site
Ever seen the film The Wicker Man? If at any point you found yourself admiring the stunning Scottish scenery among the sense of impending celluloid doom (understandable), you'll probably be interested to know that the scenic setting in question was the village of Burrowhead on the Solway Firth. And in Burrowhead is Burrowhead Holiday Village, a scenic park that has one hundred acres of parkland with views over the Solway Firth to the Isle of Man and the hills of the Lake District. This is activity land – sea fishing, golf and coastal walks are all very close to hand. If you're at the site during high season, you will also have the chance to descend upon the gorgeous outdoor pool, where there is a toddlers' splash pool with a small waterslide. At all other times of the year, let the kids loose at the play area, crazy golf, amusement arcade, soft play area and ball pool playroom; the park also has miniature golf, a putting green, a snooker room and an adults-only function room. Basic provisions are available at the Burrowhead Holiday Village reception. Burrowhead Holiday Village has a private water supply, so they recommend that guests boil water before consumption. Dogs are welcome on site.

Liked: Staff were all very friendly and to be honest really made our holiday.

Spectacular views, spacious pitches, plenty of space for walks/play.

Clean, well looked after facilities

Disliked: Not a dislike for the site but maybe worth mentioning - our sat nav took us through tight off road roads and through farmers fields in the last 5 minutes of our journey there. No idea why though as the site has a normal wide road leading in and out of the site. We put it down to the settings on the sat nav.

So if youre visiting this site and begin to drive on small country roads/farmers fields - go back, there is a normal and easy route haha

We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed our amazing views and the expanse of land we have available for our guests.

It is fantastic to hear that you found all of our facilities to be clean and well looked after. Our friendly, hard-working team works hard to keep these standards and it is rewarding to learn that we achieved this for you.

We are sorry that your Sat Nav brought you to us via an interesting route. There is definitely a straightforward way which it sounds like you found in the end.

We do hope that you will visit us again.

Liked: The toilet/shower blocks where nearby and very clean, well maintained at all times.
They had a laundry room with a washer and dryer which were cheap enough to use and it also had a sink and drying area with Sponges and liquid provided which made washing up a lot easier. The childrens park was big and catered well for all ages and again was central so close by to most pitches.

Disliked: The outdoor pool is no longer heated so unable to use most of the time due to cold weather, the indoor pool isn't really a pool with the maximum capacity being only 8 people. This was closed at first due to levels not being right. The shop was no longer there, instead there was a handful of bits of food available to buy in main reception. The cafe food was really nice however we waited an hour and a half for our food due to low staffing however they did continue to keep taking orders knowing they were extremely busy and couldn't keep up. The entertainment was poor, my kids didn't really enjoy it.

We are please to hear that you found the toilet/shower blocks clean and tidy as our team works hard to maintain these standards. We try and ensure all of our facilities offer everything you need so again we are pleased to hear that this was the case with the laundry and washing area.

We are very sorry to hear about your experience in the cafe - we were incredibly busy over the weekend and are sorry that your order took a while to arrive. We are pleased that you enjoyed the food when it did. We are reinstating the shop into the cafe area for the main season.

We are lucky to have an outdoor pool on the park and it's temperature is weather dependant - it is certainly very popular throughout the summer months. We always have to put our guests safety first which is why the indoor pool was closed until levels were safe - we reopened as soon as was practicable.

We are sorry to hear that your children did not enoy the entertainment provided. The Roadrunner is always a showstopper and we have received very favourable reviews from other guests.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the spectacular views and walks we have here. Being positioned at the end of a peninsular means that shops and public transport are not close by, for many this is the attraction.

We are sorry that you found our shower room cold.

Local attractions

If you're up for some angling, cast off from rocks, boats or loch near Burrowhead Holiday Village; fishing off the rocks is allowed at the Burrowhead coast and at the local beaches. All of this scenery lends itself well to walks as well: once you've wandered along the coast a bit, try the trails at Kirroughtree and through the Galloway Forest Park (45 minutes' drive). This is top birdwatching territory too, so look out/up for birds when you're around this part of coast, and it's prime dark skies land for stargazing afterwards. Popular attractions in the area are Bladnoch Distillery (half an hour), Galloway Forest Park, the book town of Wigtown (half an hour) and the Cream o' Galloway (an hour and five minutes), a dairy farm that produces topping ice cream and has a crazy golf course. Nearby Whithorn (15 minutes) is where Christianity in Scotland evolved under the leadership of St Ninian; the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre and St Ninian's Cave are the main tourist draws. Other nearby days out could include the 75 acres of child-friendly Castle Kennedy Gardens (55 minutes); a look at the inhabitants of Monreith Animal World (20 minutes), and the watersports and activities of Galloway Activity Centre (an hour and 15 minutes). Finally, the port of Cairnryan is about an hour's drive away: sail to Larne in Northern Ireland from here and drive along the coast to have a day in Belfast.
