  • Rural dog-friendly site by a river 10 minutes’ drive from Dumfries
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; half an hour from the sea
  • Modern showers and disabled facilities; awnings provided; shop nearby
If you’re after a well-serviced spot to park up for the night or are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set in several acres of countryside, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. The lively town of Dumfries (10 minutes) is a surefire bet for picking up food or any other bits and bobs. If you’re having a break from the stove, take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce while you’re there. There's another shop five minutes' walk from the site. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include a shower block with wet rooms and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

From the manager: Thank you Norman for taking the time to leave us a lovely review, especially that you liked everything & we have a first class site that is really tidy & well laid out.

As we say often, it means a lot to the team that all our hard work to make our guests have an enjoyable stay & make them feel welcome, doesn't go unnoticed.

Our Wi-Fi on site is free & we are pleased Norman that you found it Fantastic.

Norman you did say it would be nice to have more than one shower cubical, BUT we do. We have a further 2 showers/toilets, one being a wet room for easy access, a short walk away next to reception.

Thank you again for taking the time to leave us a lovely review Norman & the team hope you will visit again soon.

We are pleased you would recommend us to friends & would visit again.

Thomas we noticed you didn't like our toilet building. We presume you mean the one off the games room. But we do have 2 further toilets & showers a short walk away at reception.

Thank you again Thomas. We hope you will visit again soon.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: This site was absolutely immaculate! Plenty of space for our tent box, table & chairs. The toilets and showers were spotless & the grounds were beautiful. Check in & out times were great as we arrived a bit later but didn’t have to leave until 11:30am which gave us plenty time to relax. The staff member was very helpful and directed us right to our pitch. The site was easy to find and had lots of nice walks things to do nearby. We will definitely be back here and will be recommending to friends and family.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: Layout of site was very attractive and so well cared for. Staff very helpful, friendly and informative.

Disliked: Only criticism is not enough toilets and showers and having to go through the games room to access them. Bit embarrassing!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Jacqueline.

We really appreciate you saying you would recommend our site and saying 'You won't be disappointed', plus how you found the the layout of the site very attractive & so well cared for. The team take real pride in the site & it means a lot to get their hard work appreciated.

All our team try to make everyone's stay enjoyable, so we are all really pleased that you found them helpful, friendly & informative.

Jacqueline there must of been a lack of communication regarding the toilets and showers when you booked in, because you should of been informed that there are 2 further showers/toilets a 2 minute walk from the touring site. We do apologise that this information was not conveyed to you.

We see from your review Jacqueline, that you would visit again, so we all look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out for all the family, with its stellar art collection, woodland walks and adventure playground. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
