  • Rural Somerset site with animals, country views, walks and firepits
  • A five-minute drive to Wincanton; 25 minutes from Frome and Longleat
  • Two hour's drive from southwest London, with easy access from the A303
No need to decide between a trip to Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire – just a couple minutes' drive away from the A303, Somerset's Sunnyhill Park and Campsite is an excellent base for exploring all three. This rural site is a five-minute drive from Wincanton, a town with a racecourse, pubs, coffee shops and shops. There are plenty of attractions within a short drive of the site too, whether it's the animals of Longleat, 25 minutes' drive away, or the gorgeous Stourhead Gardens, 10 minutes' drive away. Where else might you visit? Famed Stonehenge and Wells are within 35 minutes' drive of the site. Glastonbury, well known for its annual festival and Glastonbury Tor, is 40 minutes' drive away. Closer by is the gorgeous working estate The Newt in Somerset – at 15 minutes' drive – and Bruton, a small market town – at 25 minutes' drive. It's also just a 25-minute drive from the site to Shaftesbury to see Gold Hill's steep cobbles and a splendid abbey. There are plenty of shops, cafés and pubs dotted around the small local towns and villages. Although, you may want to save yourself for a pint in the pop-up bar on site. In keeping with the rural views stretching towards King's Alfred's Tower (note this location down if you're a fan of woodland walks), there are pet sheep, goats, cows, turkeys, chickens, ducks, ponies and cats to meet on site. After dark, guests are very welcome to gather around a firepit too.

Buttercup Corner electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The welcome my husband recieved was great, gave us all the information we’d need. We also loved the relaxed atmosphere and the fact the owners checked in with us after our first night as it was rather windy and wet!
I couldn’t quite work out how to use the tap at the washing up station as it wouldn’t heat up, within 5 minutes it was sorted and back up and working again! Nothing is too much trouble for the owners and their family. They were all so friendly, the sheep on site was a little too friendly when they decided they’d like to visit our tent, haha!
Also love the fact they supply feminine hygiene products, little touches such as these are what stands out and makes the difference ❤️
Thankyou for our stay, we will be returning again 🏕️

Disliked: The showers are very temperamental, going very hot and very cold, made showering the children difficult but have read a sign saying maintenance is currently underway, hence why we didn’t report it :)

Liked: Lovely, peaceful site. Beautiful views. Very friendly staff, especially Polly who made us a great bacon roll for breakfast. Would definitely stay again . Great location for visiting local attractions like Stourhead which is just 10 minutes away by car.

Liked: Very friendly. Great views. Quiet. Good clean facilities. Site managers genuinely wanted us to have a nice stay.

Disliked: A little tight getting onto pitch for my 8m twin axle caravan but was not as hard as it first looked. No dramas in the end ....

Liked: This was a return visit after several years. Was great to see Sandy again. The site has changed since our last visit. Although the welcoming 'hippy laid back' vibe is still there, which is great. Forgotten how wonderful the view is. Great improvements to the entrance to the shower block & to the waste disposal area.

Disliked: The light in the gents toilets goes out to quickly, I know it's designed to save energy but it went out during my husbands shower & he had to finish showering/dressing in the dark, which led to him banging his face & bleeding.

From the manager: Omg
That's awful
I am so sorry your hubby hurt himself as you know that would never be my desire
Yes the light is set for 4 mins on the sensor
I am not sure howbto adjust it as I presume behind the shower door the sensor wasn't picking up movement?....I promise I will look at it ASAP...here I come YouTube
Thanks for the lovely review otherwise and I am so glad that you enjoyed the improvements and still love the place xx
The view is fantastic isn't it and there's no better reward than people loving my place like I do x
Hope to see you two again and no injuries next time
Take care

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Super friendly host, chatty and helpful, clean and well equipped toilet block, free electricity, nice views across Somerset, good pubs nearby (we went to The Smithy). Great to find a site open in early Feb

Disliked: Nothing really. The host is making a real effort to help those of us who like to camp out of season

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed the smithy
Sarah Beany and family use that pub and it borders on Cameron mackintosh estate too but still retains its local friendly vibe of local villagers and farmers. Obviously also glad you see the beauty in my place and understood Feb being open means maint happens along side guests. As I say I think I will close next year for a few months as the maint always invites negatives.
Hope we see you all again

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Not as shown on web site

Disliked: On arrival it was like turning up at a traveler site god nose the last time the toilets were cleaned mud and toilet roll on floor with very small cut off doors and to top it off the local pub doesn’t let dogs in what sort of country pub doesn’t allow dogs ?

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi
What an upsetting review to read
Point 1
Pictures on website are mainly of the summer and do not show the mud/storm damage/maint of dec/Jan ...granted but I would expect a seasoned camper who is visiting a campsite mid winter to be accepting of this.
Point 2
Travellers site? Wow I am very sure no travellers site would be as pleasant as our place! and also very sure neither my mobile home tenants nor my winter seasonal pitch holders would appreciate your opinion
Point 3
Shower block cleaned daily if muddy ?
Point 4
There are several local pubs ...you must of gone to Hunters Lodge they do not jave dogs inside but do outside as well as a fab children's play area. The smithy just round the corner and bayford Inn around the corner in the other direction do allow dogs. As do the 5 local pubs in wincanton, the 3 in bruton 2 in Castle cary and many small ones in between so you unluckily chose the only one not allowing dogs.

Every year I wonder whether it's worth being open and reviews like yours make me feel not. I stay open as many people are grateful of it when most others are closed seasonally but I do have to do maint in the winter season and this does mean that not only do we have grey days, mud and muck etc but we also have limited daylight to achieve things. However to be frank, I really feel that the odd 30 quid to let weary travellers rest isn't worth what it does to my reviews.
I would also like to mention that with heating the shower block etc it costs me so much more to be open, and that truthfully this review deters me from being open next winter.....its just not worth the negativity

Liked: This is probably the best signposted camp we have ever stayed on. Both the signs from the road to the site and the signs around it. They were all beautifully painted. Some of the facilities were works in progress but were still clean and well presented.

Disliked: Not their fault but the weather was horrendous

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The location and views were fantastic. It's a back-to-basics site with everything you need for a pleasant stay. A friendly atmosphere with an 'off-grid' feel makes it a great place to escape. We enjoyed meeting all the animals, including the very friendly pet sheep. The owner was very nice, and she worked hard to ensure everyone enjoyed their stay. The site was also very dog-friendly, with plenty of space to explore.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: It’s basic, rural, lovely views, loved the chickens and the sheep roaming around. Nice people, lovely welcome but the facilities could do with a bit of an update. Loved the fact it had a bar although we didn’t use it, loved the fact you could buy bits and pieces: eggs, tomatoes, big bag of logs and kindling for the fire pit, then the free bread rolls, book exchange etc. and supplies of toiletries in the shower. Very nice 👍

Disliked: Nothing really, it was relaxing, peaceful and we would happily return:)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Aww thank you 😊
You were lovely guests and it will be lovely to see you again

Obviously we love the place so it's great when people see the beauty in the place too.
This time of year, out of season we do long maintenance lists and try and get jobs done when we can. The shower block is on the list so it's fair to say they are tired 😫 but the men's is first on the list being closed for November (ladies will be unisex for the month) and I am excited to revamp them before next season .....watch this space!!

Local attractions

Devotees of Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books flock to Wincanton, not only to peruse the bits and bobs at the Discworld Emporium but also to hunt out the various tributes around the town; having been officially twinned with Ankh-Morpork, there are now several Discworld street names and a themed pub to be seen around the place. Away from the fantasy world, real-life creatures can be seen in action at the racecourse (10 minutes’ drive) or on a drive through Longleat safari park (half an hour). If it’s motors that get you going, take the 15-minute drive to the Haynes Motor Museum instead. Those with a sense of the mystic may like to peruse the famed slabs of Stonehenge (35 minutes) or head to Glastonbury Tor (45 minutes) to consider the legends that surround the ancient site. Less shrouded in mystery but still mighty pretty for a wander are the house and gorgeous gardens at National Trust-owned Stourhead (15 minutes).
