  • Small, quiet adults-only site on the edge of Exmoor National Park
  • Dog-friendly; half an hour's walk from Wimbleball Lake and Haddon Hill
  • Small shop on site selling essentials; dog-friendly pub next door
Remote, rural, peaceful and just lovely are the boxes you'll tick at Lowtrow Cross Caravan and Camping Park, a small and friendly place close to Wimbleball Lake on the Somerset and Devon borders and on the edge of the spectacular Exmoor National Park. Set over four acres in an area of spectacular scenery, Lowtrow Cross Caravan and Camping Park is an adults-only site set up for guests to have restful and serene stays in a remote setting with easy access to many West Country attractions. Miles of uncrowded walking and cycling trails are easy to access from here, along with fishing, sailing, canoeing and horse riding. If you aim to take things a mite easier while on your peaceful break, Lowtrow Cross Caravan and Camping Park is also in a wildlife and birdwatching haven with an enclosed dog-walking area. The site is great for unwinding and watching the sunset over the moor scenery, and there's also more sky gazing when the sun goes down, as this part of Somerset is prime stargazing territory. (Nearby Exmoor was the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe too.) Friendly wardens Rob and Karen live on site and are rightly proud of their surroundings: they'll usually be out and about keeping the grounds and facilities tiptop, so give them a shout if you need any help or advice. There's a small shop on site selling essentials and local produce on site. A dog-friendly pub is also next door, just one minutes' walk away.

A - fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: This is a wonderful campsite, from the very first moment I arrived I was greeted by the staff Caz and Rob, who couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly. They even helped me put up a tent. The campsite was really clean and well tended, the facilities were great - spotless bathrooms and washing up area.
It’s an adult only site and really quiet, which was perfect for me and my dog (who really liked the special dog field).
Location wise, it’s on the edge of Exmoor, and fairly easy to get anywhere (obviously being Exmoor expect lots of hills and windy little roads).
Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.

Liked: They contacted us when on route to make sure everything was okay, and asked for an eta, so they could help up with positioning tourer, showers and toilets were clean, very quiet site, they were helpful and asked if we needed anything, as had very strong winds and took our awning down, also we needed to sort out water pressure, and they contacted local maintenance man, who came out next day.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (sloping)

Liked: We loved the quiet and scenic location of Lowtrow. The Ablutions were very well maintained and cleaned regularly. The site owners were lovely and very friendly offering advice on places to visit whilst we were there.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike about this site and we will be revisiting here in the future.

Liked: Small well maintained site on the edge of Exmoor.
Staff went above and beyond finding me a longer electricity cable and levelling up my van. When one of my dogs needed an emergency vet appointment, they not only took me and the dog to the appointment but waited to take us back as well. Their support was amazing.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: This site is immaculately maintained and has great facilities (showers, loos, a little shop and a dog exercise area) and really friendly people managing it. It is within easy access of Exmoor with limitless places to walk the dogs. There is a pub literally only a minute away at the entrance. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of a small adult only site.
