  • Luxury yurts on a peaceful glamping site overlooking Glastonbury
  • A 25-minute drive from the Mendip Hills and 40 minutes Cheddar Gorge
  • Wild swimming pond and communal kitchen on site; dog-friendly
It’s all in the name – the 18-foot yurts at Back To Nature will indeed get you back to nature. They are tucked into the far end of a wildflower meadow overlooking the historic Glastonbury Tor. Their paddock has been planted with wildflowers and trees, and on site, there is a natural wild swimming pond (again, with views of Glastonbury Tor). Set in central Somerset, the yurts are an excellent spot to totally switch off. Include your devices in that if you wish, as rather than scrolling, guests can alfresco dine all they want. The small communal outdoor kitchen is equipped with cutlery, pans, a fridge, a camping hob and a kettle, so pick as challenging a recipe as you like and pick up supplies in the shops in Glastonbury 15 minutes' drive away (or the village store in Baltonsborough, 35 minutes' walk away). The luxury yurts are furnished with India-inspired interiors, comfortable linen and woodburning stoves. From the comfortable double kingsize beds, it’s possible to watch the sunset over Glastonbury Tor without moving a muscle. The property is made up of several houses in addition to the yurt field, so while the yurt field, communal kitchen, toilets and showers are at your disposal, the surrounding property is private. If you grow tired of looking at Glastonbury Tor from afar, it's only a 10-minute drive from Back To Nature. Climbing the ancient site gives you a front-seat view of the Somerset levels.

Liked: Location was great for a secluded escape away from city life.

Bed was warm, clean & comfy.

Swift communication.

Disliked: Lack of facilities within tent, no tea making facilities. Not good when weather wasn't good. Kitchen incredibly basic, utensils needed cleaning before use. A fair walk from tent. Limited space so had to wait for other guests to finish before we could sort breakfast.

No tent facilities. A simple camp stove and cool box in yurt would of made all the difference.

Hedges near yurt very high so tor view from tent also not available.

Wild swim not possible due to pond not being health & safety checked. Slight concerns over water quality from farm land run off so didn't risk a dip. Shame as that's why we booked.

Liked: The bed is huge and so comfortable. We especially love the rustic aesthetics and every detail was very thoughtful and only a short drive away from all the sites. It's a beautiful place to stay and a memorable experience for us.

Disliked: Unfortunately the neighbor yurt was very loud all night and played techno music. And there were lots of helicopters in the morning. Factors the property cannot control.

Liked: Our night in the yurt was absolutely magical! It is in an absolutely dreamy location with a view of the Tor from the bed through the front door. The inside of the yurt is beautifully decorated with everything that you need, including a wood burning stove to keep you warm as the evening draws in and there is a fire pit and seating area outside so that you can eat alfresco. Sarah and Fin are incredible, kind hosts and really went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was comfortable, despite our unexpected events! We will definitely be back.

Route directions

Pass the big farm on your right. Lower Coxbridge is next property along the lane. Do not go down the main drive. Instead, continue down the lane for approximately 30 metres and take the next gate on the right next to the new build. Continue through the next gate and go past the polytunnel and showers until you see signs on your right for yurt parking. Please leave your vehicle here. The yurt field is through the next gate; there is a large pond on the right, so please take care when walking past.

Local attractions

You may feel inspired to do some more intense wildlife watching after unwinding in the field at Glastonbury Wild Glamping. For that, you only need to go as far as The Hawk and Owl Trust Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve (25 minutes’ drive). The reserve attracts birds of prey and even gets the occasional starling murmuration (some dancing, swooping and swirling before evening roost) in spring and autumn. Perhaps you’re already wondering which hikes and bicycle rides you can tackle too. Well, the site is well-placed for hiking around the gorgeous Cheddar Gorge and Caves (40 minutes) and Ebbor Gorge National Nature Reserve (half an hour), two of the owners’ preferred hikes, although there are of course many more stunning trails in the Mendip Hills National Landscape (25 minutes). This is also your chance to walk around the famed Glastonbury Festival Site (10 minutes) in Pilton. There are clearly marked footpaths around Worthy Farm, so take a camera and some good boots along with you.
