  • Peaceful, family-friendly coastal location on a working alpaca farm
  • Bournemouth and the New Forest within 20 minutes' drive
  • Two minutes' walk from the River Stour and five from shops and pubs
Set on a working alpaca farm in the Dorset countryside, Snooks Farm Alpacas is a splendid spot for the whole family, just three miles from Ferndown and two minutes' walk away from the River Stour. The free-range sheep and roaming goats should keep the kids entertained for hours – and there are also free-range duck and chicken eggs for sale here too. There are plenty of nearby attractions for a week of adventure. You can spend the day exploring the seaside resort of Bournemouth or take in the spectacular views of the New Forest; both within 20 minutes' drive. A skiing and snowboarding activity centre is only 10 minutes away, and Bournemouth airport is close by too (making this a handy pre-flight stay or base for the popular airshow). For food and drinks, the shops and pubs of West Parley are a five-minute walk away and barbecues are permitted on site. Dogs are not allowed on site.

What customers say

This is a popular, basic farm campsite with a laid-back feel, particularly appealing to families due to the abundance of friendly roaming farm animals, including alpacas. Guests consistently praise the welcoming and helpful owners and the flat, spacious pitches. While there are no toilet or shower facilities, the site offers a quiet, natural experience close to local amenities. Some guests noted occasional noise from nearby aircraft, and a minority found the site a bit too chaotic or basic for their preferences.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Alpacas, friendly

Disliked Place is a dump, Old rotting caravan up in a hedge row the whole place just needs a general tidy up, PERMANENT people living in motorhomes with loud music and staring at you is very off putting! The place is a very very small field they let way too many people on site for the size of it.

Very risky letting Lamas roam free with the campers they are nasty spitting. Alpacas jump the fence also.

NO toilet roll, NO Showers, NEXT TO AIRPORT 747 taking off!!!!!! Direct flight path.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Laid back feel, exactly as described so no surprises.

Communication was great and on site team super helpful.

Level pitches and Kids loved seeing the animals.

Disliked Even though it was a small site, it was popular and quite busy so queues for toilets were long at times. Could benefit from another couple of toilets.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked We had a really warm welcome from the owners and they are so helpful and friendly and easy to contact if necessary. We loved all the animals roaming around and the fact they came onto the pitch. The planes going over were loud but not that frequent or late (though early start so maybe check the flight schedule) and this might actually attract some people with children or a love of planes. The fact there is no toilet paper or hand towels in the toilets meant they were actually quite clean as there was no paper lying around.
There is a lovely walk along the river Stour nearby and, apart from the odd plane, it is very quiet. It is also nice and flat so no levellers required.

Disliked We felt the site was ideal for families as the animals and planes would be exciting for children. It is expensive if viewed as a non EHU grass pitch but you are getting free access to an animal park and possibly even an air show. However, for us personally, the site was a bit too chaotic and noisy for more than one night.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked The scenery and the animals were entertaining to watch and despite the low flying aircraft from Bournemouth airport it is a peaceful site.

Disliked Sadly it is not much more than a field with basic facilities, abandoned vehicles, and tractor trailers. If staying in a motorhome there is not much around here that you can walk to as it is quite isolated; you would need to drive out. Really should be in the bracket of a £10 stopover.

From the manager: Hi
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, this is a working alpaca farm, lots of animals clearly stated. The equipment and trailers are not abandoned but used at different times of the year for different jobs ie hay making, as for walking we have the beautifull river stour 2 mins away with lovely walks and picnic areas as well as walking via public walkways to the airport and parley heath. The site was designed for motorhomes and caravans in which you have your own facilities, we have put in toilets for campervans that don't have facilities

Liked ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wonderful Family Escape at Snooks Farm Alpacas

We had such a lovely time staying at Snooks Farm Alpacas! It’s a really peaceful and unique place — perfect if you want a quiet break surrounded by nature, with the added bonus of some super friendly alpacas and other farm animals wandering around.

The campsite itself is simple but really well kept. Our pitch was spacious and flat, great for our campervan. There’s no electric hookup here, so it’s definitely more of a traditional camping experience, but that just added to the charm. It felt like a proper little countryside escape.

Our kids absolutely adored the alpacas and llamas. They were so gentle and curious — it was amazing to have them so close. The farm also has goats, sheep, ducks, and chickens, which really made it feel like a proper farm holiday. The owners, Christine and Ian, were lovely and made sure we had everything we needed.

The facilities have improved recently, with clean new toilets which we really appreciated. Of course, it’s still quite rustic, so if you’re after luxury, this isn’t the spot — but if you want somewhere natural and relaxed, this is ideal.

Location-wise, it’s just a few miles from Ferndown, so it’s easy to pop into town for supplies or a bite to eat. We also took a day trip to Bournemouth, which was lovely.

Overall, Snooks Farm Alpacas was a wonderful spot for our family. If you’re after a peaceful campsite with lovely animals and friendly hosts, definitely give it a go. We’ll be back for sure!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Spacious site, lots of animals to look at (llamas and alpacas come into the camping field!!), clean toilet although bring your own loo roll - basic but secure and off the beaten track. Really near to the beach or walks, walkable to the local shops too.

Disliked Under the flight path to the airport which might bother some people but we only woke up to 1 plane at 7ish - no need for earplugs ☺️

Liked The farm life, alpacas, sheep, chickens and a strange bird that I've not identified but it was big. The field was big and flat, with space for every one, it was ideal as a 'wild' camping experience.

Disliked Being under the flight line of Bournemouth airport. The site is close, like only 300 ft between the aircraft and you close. The noise was off the charts and started at 7am, then a flight every 5 mins or so after that.
