  • Small and quiet farm with miles of walks all around
  • Half an hour's drive from the Jurassic Coast
  • Modern facilities, fishing ponds and campfires allowed
Farm the crew out to Moonfleet Farm if you fancy a small and quiet place set in the Dorset countryside, with room for the kids to exhaust their energy among the fields and designated walking areas to let the dog off the lead. You might also rather fancy the 10-minute walk direct from the farm along the 'smugglers' footpath' to the local village shop and pub, then home to settle down in front of a roaring campfire for food and sunset vistas over the distant Blackmore Vale… Moonfleet is a working sheep farm on the western edge of the village of Higher Ansty, quiet and rural enough for a peaceful getaway, but easily accessible to main Dorset attractions and about half an hour from the Dorset coast. It has miles of local walks snaking its surroundings, and fishing ponds on site at which to land rudd, roach, barbel, crucian carp, tench and perch. Day and weekly fishing tickets can be bought from the team. The farm has modern amenitiess including a shower and toilet block with underfloor heating and hairdryers, a washing-up area, a chemical disposal point, drinking water taps and a laundry room with a free washing machine and a coin-operated tumble dryer. Showers, the hairdryers and wifi are all free.

Liked Really nice campsite owners! And their dogs! Beautiful scenery. Great toilets and showers, sheep and goats and very peaceful. NOT near any busy roads so perfect.

Disliked The local pub had a private function so wasn’t open.

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Friendly relaxed informal site. Very quiet.

Disliked Expensive for electric hook up and only 2 toilets and showers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
I'm sorry you feel our hook up expensive, we try to keep it in line with other sites and would point out that the cost is not just for the power used, but regular maintenance and safety checks.
It's unfortunate that you weren't aware of the other five toilets, two wet rooms and extra shower.

Great stay for a young family with great facilities. Recommended.

Liked Pitch was great. Barbecues and fire pits being allowed was a nice touch. Farm owners were very welcoming and provided a great service day and night. Facilities were also well looked after.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great facilities and lovely pitches.
We didn't camp on the Electric hook up so was a bit less ridged on where we could camp. Lovely surroundings too

Disliked Owners dog escaped and taunted our dog, it had no recall or inclination to leave even when my dog was very unhappy. My dog was unsettled all weekend on high alert as this dog escaped multiple times and would come into our campsite and tried to get in our van. We were approached by other campers who told us it was a regular occurrence. My dog was on lead all the time.

Jocelyn C. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Massive pitches. Family friendly. Lovely, friendly owners. Daughter loved the swing in the tree and the horses. Fire pits allowed and you can buy fire wood there. Owners came round everyday to check if we needed any. Took our large group of families and located us all next to each other. Flexible on check out time. We had a nice walk and visited Milton Abbey. Had a great stay and would visit again.

Disliked Pitches a bit uneven, took a while to level the caravan. Closest tap wasn't working but next one wasn't too far, although tap and electric points were covered in nettles.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Jocelyn, the tap had been disconnected, not sure why or by whom.
It is now fully operational.
Sorry about the nettles! It's been a busy growing period, we would definitely have cut them back had we known they were a problem.

Brilliant place to stay, beautiful location. Will def book again

Local attractions

The walks around Moonfleet Farm along local lanes and through scenic Dorset countryside lead to the likes of pretty local village Milton Abbas, Milton Abbey, Athelhampton House, Cerne Abbas and sending the kids into fits of giggles when they spy mighty chalk Cerne Giant etched into the hillside. Arf. A heap of other Dorset history is a little further afield, such as that at the former Saxon cathedral of Sherborne Abbey, or at historic houses and gardens, abbeys and churches. Also go for Corfe Castle on the Isle of Purbeck and potter around the county town of Dorchester with the Dinosaur Museum, Dorchester Museum, Teddy Bear Museum, Tutankhamen Exhibition and the Roman Amphitheatre. (Have a look at the Thomas Hardy Trail and weekly market in Dorchester too.) Wareham, Swanage, Weymouth, and Salisbury are easily accessible by car and have enough to do to keep you going for several weeks; among our many recommendations are puffing along on award-wining and steamy Swanage Railway, seeing Salisbury's splendid cathedral, wandering around the RSPB reserve at Weymouth or hiking the 15 or so miles of the spectacular Purbeck Way. Fishing fan? Investigate the waters around the harbours of Poole and Weymouth.
