  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Second time coming here. Lovely place. Love the play area now, when we came last year it was being done. Pool and arcades great fair the kids also. Bar and restaurant great. Food was so filling, we struggled to eat our food. Our son broke his arm the first day. We were there and reception were great when I called them from our pitch and sent someone with the first aid box to bring us a sling so so quickly. Showers were hot, toilet area and laundry area clean and tidy.
So close to Charmouth beach and Lyme Regis.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Kids loved the swimming and the entertainment. The play park is also really good. Having a free onsite soft play was also great in the rain.

Disliked We were in the black field and it felt really cramped. Hardly any space between tents. There also appeared to be a few groups who weren’t pitched together meaning it was quite loud as they went between tents. Toilets, showers and washing up areas unclean.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The views were stunning beautiful hillsides in the distance surrounded by trees and nature, the facilities were good, hot water, good size showers and toilets. Swimming pool, shop etc and many other facilities that we didn’t use

Disliked No mention of camping on a hill on the website so we were sliding in the tent most of the time, cooking was hard as everything just kept sliding down. Not all pitches are on a hill though some are flat, washing up area the taps could do with being fully running rather than having to push down every 10 seconds, no plugs either so bring your own bowl or you have to multitask with the tap and washing at the same time

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A beautifully located site, facilities were well after very well, good amenities on site. A lovely base camp to explore the other local places from beaches. Harbours, national trust walks, to shopping for trinkets. Will definitely be returning and highly recommended.

Disliked Camp electric pitches don’t give much room in between so can feel like your on top of each other if you have several large tents around you, but easily solved for us as we used the side entrance instead of the front porch when the site filled up.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Bar and shop were good, we didn’t eat but menu looked good

Disliked Check in staff were a little vague, Gents shower and toilet block needs a lot of reinvestment.

Gravel strips in front of the porches need to be tarmac like the other roads as everything is covered in dust.

A35 was much closer than realised and very noisy.

Washing up sinks are very shallow and no plugs are supplied as well as the horrible push taps (feels like we can’t be trusted with normal ones)

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
