  • Well-established Dorset park two miles from Blandford Forum
  • Kingston Lacy estate 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to the coast
  • Set within 14 acres of ancient parkland, with private walking trails
Seeking some proper peace and quiet for your Dorset break? Tuck yourselves away among 14 acres of ancient parkland at The Inside Park, a couple of miles outside Blandford Forum. The team here have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, with many people becoming repeat visitors over that time. And what is it that keeps them coming back for more? Well, despite being so close to town (very handy when you want to pop out to the shops or find somewhere to eat out), this place has quite a magical secluded atmosphere. The pitches are about half a mile from the nearest road, and surrounded by a swathe of fine specimen trees that are home to lots of wildlife (deer, hawks and badgers are among the animals you might spot as you wander here). Getting out to explore your surroundings is easy here, as there are about six miles of private waymarked trails running through the farm’s land – excellent for walking the dogs or taking the kids out to spot some of the aforementioned wildlife. There are also woodland areas for the kids to play in, along with an outdoor play area and an indoor games room with table tennis, pool and other games. The owners of this site have clearly learned a thing or two about guests’ needs over the years they’ve been running the place, so now there’s a good list of facilities, mostly located within a characterful 18th-century stable and coach house – a launderette, food shop and modern accessible bathrooms among them. Spacious pitches on free-draining land round everything off nicely for a comfortable, chilled-out countryside break.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Massive site, huge pitches with an amazing park for the kids all at a great price.
Really accommodating staff.
Brilliant shop with lots of stock.

Disliked: Bit of a walk to the toilets down which was down a dark hedged area but not a problem to us as the site felt very safe. But not sure you would be happy letting your kids go that way at nights

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Fantastic Grounds, super clean, well maintained and super friendly staff. Easy access to campsite with fast check-in guided by a member of staff who showed us our pitch.

Facilities were spotless and so nice to be able to get proper hot water when showering.

The kids play area is the best playground i have seen and our kids were out all day playing and making friends. This made is super relaxing for us adults and prety much had a very chilled weekend. Kids slept all the way home.

Disliked: Only slight grumble was the distance to the shower / toilet block. No Wi-fi on pitch.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Beautiful site. Really friendly staff. Loads of water points. Incredibly well maintained. Extremely clean facilities. Loved “The Swallow Inn” (not a pub - just an open window where swallows were nesting in an upstairs. Amazing children’s’ play area. Well located.

Disliked: There was nothing I disliked. We just thought the showers were a little weak. When combined with the soft water, it was quite hard to get the soap rinsed off.
There is 4G so would be great to have Wi-Fi in the park (there is free wifi in the reception area)

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Good facilities. Plenty of toilets and showers and don't need to pay for them. Children enjoyed the play area. Nice well maintained grounds.

Disliked: Very busy and noisy with lots of children and young teenagers riding around on bikes until late at night. Camped near an inconsiderate group of two families who made lots of noise: shouting, swearing, kids on bikes with disc breaks squealing close to the tent, drum and bass music being played one night. Eventually quietened down about 11.30pm but that's too late, especially if you've got little ones trying to sleep.
We booked for three nights but left after two.
I had a shower one day and two uncouth lads were in the cubicles either side of me talking about washing their genitals. Made me feel like I was staying in a prison camp rather than on holiday!
I do think campsite owners should do a walk around at about 10pm to crack down on anti social behaviour. I've done more camping in Germany, France and Spain than England and have never had this experience there. Makes you wonder what this country is coming to!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: A beautiful campsite, with a fantastic park for the children! Lots of room for them to run around too. Facilities were kept really clean and everyone working there was really friendly. A handy little shop for anything you may have forgotten! The showers were a really comfortable size with room to change! We had a really lovely 2 night stay and would definitely recommend and go back. Thank you! (I don't think it had WiFi so put 1 star - couldn't remove it!)

Local attractions

If you're popping into Blandford Forum (five minutes’ drive) for a bit of shopping, stick around to visit the Blandford Fashion Museum or take a tour of the Hall & Woodhouse Brewery. There’s also a leisure centre here with a pool, and you can head a little way out of town to the Royal Signals Museum (10 minutes). From this handy spot within the Dorset National Landscape, there are plenty of lovely walks and bike rides – plus more adventurous bike activities at Okeford Hill Bike Park (10 minutes). The spectacular Kingston Lacy estate (15 minutes), English Oak Vineyard (20 minutes) and Sculpture By The Lakes (25 minutes) give different ways to enjoy the scenery. And of course Dorset’s fabulous coastline isn’t far off either – drive for half an hour or so and you’ll be at Bournemouth’s splendid sandy beach or at the ancient coves of the Jurassic Coast.
