What customers say

This campsite is highly praised for its peaceful atmosphere, spacious and well-maintained pitches, and spotlessly clean facilities, including hot showers with good pressure. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as fire pits with logs available, and the excellent play area for children. The welcoming and helpful owners, Dinah and Marc, consistently receive positive feedback for their attentiveness and flexibility. While most guests found nothing to dislike, a minor mention of a nearby road and one comment about the price were noted.

Bell tent

Liked Very friendly welcome, hosts were brilliant! Gave us plenty of information about surrounding areas. We had a wedding that day and asked to check in earlier than normal which they accommodated for us!

Couldn’t have asked for anything better!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We had a wonderful stay. Marc and Dinah are exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The site is clearly a labour of love and we loved how the pitches are set out with a space for each family. The outdoor shower was bliss! Delicious pizzas, excellent play are which we all enjoyed and our boys were in their element. Thank you!

Yurt

Liked First off, I would like to say this was such a gem of a find. Dinah and Marc were fantastic and really have thought of everything that you would need or want on a camping stay. From the spoons and pots to the torches and hot water bottles. Just bring food and towels! My kids (1 and 5) simply loved the experience and the minute they got out of the car just thought they were in heaven. The yurt itself is far bigger than it looks and so comfy! The kitchen and fire pit was so social for us and there was also the playground where ball toys are provided like badminton as well as archery. There is also a stream and hammock in the trees which we wish we could have stayed at longer. The other campers are certainly not close at all and we really felt we were in nature and the silence was beautiful. The highlight for my partner was the outside shower (which provides warm water) so he felt really rejuvenated every morning. There’s a lot to see around the area: we went to the beach in Cornwall but would suggest to visit the smaller ones as the main beach was too busy, castle Drogo was a treat and the lovely pubs along any route were so gorgeous. Do visit Fingle Bridge Inn for a meal- it’s along the river and has truly beautiful views with kids playing in the water and picnicking along the mountain. We want to walk the trail the next time we come. There is a lake to kayak in not so far away and horse riding. Honestly - so much to do and see we were shocked. We lived out stay and will certainly come again. Fuss free camping with kids - yes!

Disliked Having to leave - wish we could have stayed longer!

Lotus bell tent

Liked Absolutely loved this site, amazing set up at the lotus bell tent. Kitchen with all the amenities including a double hob, cool box and ice packs and all the utensils you could need. The tent itself was beautiful, spacious and well decorated. The games area at the bottom of the site was an hit with our 12 year old, it was her favourite part. Our favourite part was the hot showers and proper loos! All in all a great stay!

Disliked The nearby road, not much anyone can do about this just make sure you bring ear plugs if your a light sleeper like me.

Lotus bell tent

Liked A lovely clean, well-maintained and spacious site with really good facilities - couldn't fault the lovely hot and powerful shower (didn't try the outdoor one but heard that was also good!) and proper flushing loos plus washing up facilities. It is clear that the very friendly owners really take pride in this place. My children loved the freedom to run around and enjoyed all the games on offer (croquet, boules, badminton etc). I loved our cosy lotus belle tent with its really comfortable bed and well equipped camp kitchen as well as relaxing by our big firepit in the evenings. Yes, as others have said, you can hear the nearby road, but it certainly didn't spoil our stay and we hope to return at some point - we had a great few days 😀

Local attractions

Tear up the skate park, take to the adventure playground or head out onto the Tarka Trail… there’s access to all three in Hatherleigh (five minutes’ drive or 10 minutes’ cycle along a bike path). It’s one of a couple of splendid places close by to this site, which includes the Legge Farm Coarse Fishery (five minutes’ drive) and the War Horse Valley Country Farm Park (10 minutes) for families who fancy getting stuck into farm activities and a World War I museum. Woolley Animals’ (25 minutes) alpaca walks are another activity for any wannabe farmers. Meanwhile, nearby the pretty Clovelly (40 minutes), you can swap tractor rides at the BIG Sheep farm park (40 minutes) for the Milky Way Adventure Park's bigger coasters (40 minutes). After some hikes, wild swimming and other outdoorsy types of activities? Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes) is a good choice on that front. More paddles can be tracked down on Bude beach (half an hour), where there’s a sea pool and surf schools. For some sightseeing instead, set off for Okehampton Castle (15 minutes) or the spectacular gardens at RHS Garden Rosemoor (25 minutes).
