  • Peaceful woodland and meadows site in the Blackdown Hills
  • Branscombe, Lyme Regis and the South West Coast Path 40 minutes’ drive
  • Pre-pitched bell tents with a private firepit, kitchen tent and shower
Five minutes’ drive away from Hemyock in Devon, the lovely meadow at Lickham Bottom Camping is set between two ancient woodlands in the Blackdown Hills National Landscape. Accommodation is in pre-pitched bell tents, so once you arrive at the site, all you need to do is unpack your things and you should be pretty much ready for a big family adventure in the West Country. This is a 13-acre site with meadows and woodlands, where the spacious bell tents are spread over several different areas in a four-acre meadow. There’s plenty of distance and privacy between the pitches, as well as the chance to explore the woodlands and keep your eyes peeled for deer, buzzards and owls. Each bell tent comes with its own wooden 'Donkey Closet', which includes a well-designed compost loo, a sink and an outdoor hot shower for washing beneath the open skies. There's a private kitchen tent at each unit, fully equipped with a kettle, a two-ring gas stove, pots, plates, cutlery and – of course – tea and coffee for your morning brew. Outside, prop your feet up around your large, private firepit to cook up an alfresco feast or roast some snacks for the upcoming day. And if you ever find yourself daydreaming about a cheesy slice of pizza, you may want to book (for an additional fee) access to the site's traditional pizza oven kitchen set in the woodlands. One thing to note please: linens are not provided in the bell tents, so please bring your own bedding and towels.

Oak Tree Nook bell tent

Liked: Everything! The staff were very friendly, helping us unload our bags to our tent, giving us lots of tips on use of the area. It was beautifully laid out, the bell tent was spacious, it had a lovely kitchen area with a roof in case it rained. It had all the utensils required as well lighting.

Having our own ensuite was great, the shower is technically outside but was hot and powerful which was great. The bathroom was beautiful decked out as well.

What we loved most was how quiet it was, with only a couple of other tents in the field (although we were the only ones which we loved!).

Extra touches helped added to it...a hammock, water bottles, fire pit, camping chairs. Once dark it was lovely to see all the stars in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The inside of the tent was beautiful created, wood burning stove kept it nice and warm, it had a comfy bed and lots of room.

We'd recommend this site to anyone and we plan on going back again as we loved it so much.

Disliked: Honestly nothing. Value for money wise I think it was excellent.
