  • Peaceful and spacious pitches on a family-run Devon smallholding
  • In the Tamar Valley National Landscape; 20 minutes' drive to Dartmoor
  • Secure dog field for hire, and farm tours/experiences to book
Ready to immerse yourselves in proper rural life? Head to Harlings Devon, part of a large family farm where you can sign up for all sorts of farm experiences to give you a real insight into the workings of agricultural life. Will and Abbie took over this smallholding in 2020, and have spent the time since then creating a place that not only fulfils their own rural dreams but also shares the experience with visitors. Some of the farm’s buildings have been converted into spaces for educational and therapeutic visits, and there are now accessible tracks through the property for all visitors to get out and explore. The campsite is in a prime spot within the property, with spacious pitches that have fantastic views over the Tamar Valley National Landscape. Firepits, wifi and phone charging points have all been provided for free use, and there’s also a smart facilities building with a washing-up sink and a shared fridge and freezer as well as toilets and showers. Tavistock (15 minutes' drive) is your closest big town for supermarkets and the like, but you can buy firewood on site. This is a great spot for all sorts of Devon and Cornwall outings – you’ll be within easy reach of Plymouth, Dartmoor National Park and several beaches as well as National Trust sites like Buckland Abbey and Cotehele. But of course you’ll also want to save some time for those farm experiences – the events programme includes things like feeding sessions, pony experiences and farm tours. There's also a secure dog field you can hire for private sessions to let your dog race about in safety.

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: We had the campsite to ourselves for a one night mid September so very quiet and peaceful with lovely views all round.
The owners were friendly, easy going and helpful. They are setting up interesting ventures and had a great inclusive ethos and outlook.
Site itself is new and very clean and tidy and flat so no trouble with our van for a level spot.
Toilet/shower/washroom is all in one room, very plush for a campsite, be great for less abled people, including wheelchairs.
We were only passing through so spent just one night, but would have been very happy to spend more time there and price was good for the facilities in comparison to other sites with much less at same cost.
Would definitely recommend.

Disliked: We didn't dislike anything, the only comment I'd have is that if the site was full, more showers and toilets would be needed, but I understand that this is in the pipeline.

Local attractions

Once you’ve taken a stroll around the woodlands around the farm, set off to see a bit more of the area – perhaps strolling along the banks of the Tamar River a couple of miles away, heading off to hike in Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes’ drive) or taking bikes to the Tamar Trails Centre (10 minutes). For more countryside pursuits, you may like to visit the 700-year-old Buckland Abbey and its grounds (10 minutes) or stroll through the estate and Tudor house at Cotehele (25 minutes). Adrenalin Quarry (45 minutes) is a great bet for adventurous souls; those who prefer to keep their feet on firm ground may prefer exploring the Cornish Maize Maze (half an hour). Fancy a change of scenery (or hit a rainy day?) There’s plenty to do in Plymouth (half an hour), including the National Marine Aquarium and the interactive The Box museum. When the weather’s brighter, head to the coast for beach days in Bovisand (50 minutes) or around Looe (55 minutes).
