  • Wild camping on a family-run hill farm in Dartmoor National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to The Granite Way; wild swimming pool very close by
  • Small firepits and barbecues welcome; pub and shop nearby
Diving into Dartmoor National Park for cycling-ready trails or hikes in the craggy tors? Elvan Farm Campsite will open the doors nicely, as this wild camping site belongs to a traditional family-run farm in the hills of the national park with some dazzling sunsets, scenery and plenty of space to find a peaceful spot to settle in and unwind. Once you’re all set up, you’ll want to weigh up your options. Will it be a hike up into the hills directly from the site? Wild swimming in Shilley Pool, just five minutes’ walk away? Perhaps a casual stroll into one of the local villages to call into one of the traditional country pubs? Onto one of the cycling trails within 15 minutes' drive of the site? The local village has just the spot, five minutes’ drive away, as there’s a café, pub and shop with the essentials, including fresh fruit and veg. For somewhere a little bigger and buzzier, Okehampton has shops and supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away where you'll be able to source more specific food items. On site, you're welcome to set up a small firepit or barbecue. In the way of other facilities, you’ll also have access to toilets.

What customers say

This is a simple, remote campsite in Dartmoor, praised for its peaceful location, stunning views, and direct access to moorland walks and wild swimming. Guests highlight Hayley's exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. Facilities, including clean portable toilets and showers, are generally well-maintained. While some found the track to the site overgrown, most found it easy to locate. The campsite is recommended for its quiet, natural setting and value.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Nice location with ok facilities stayed 1 night. Clean shower . Bins on site.

Disliked We stayed 1 night leaving early next morning however Although it’s not the campsites fault the field was full of tics. Found 3 on me 1 on my girlfriend and 7 on the dog. Very unfortunate however worth noting it’s next to a working farm. Shame as made the stay uncomfortable. Not sure if there’s anything you can do to control such problem but definitely worth noting.

Portaloo Toilets were extremely overfilled however was a bank holiday Monday.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.

Unfortunately, when I popped over to check the site, you were out at the time, although I think believe we bumped into you at the farm gate, with your dog and asked if all was ok.
I can only apologise regarding the toilets, we had an extremely busy weekend, and they were emptied Tuesday morning.
I do my utmost to ensure they’re as clean and tidy as can be.
Going off this, we will look to get extra toilets for bank holiday, if we choose to open again next year.

Thank you for visiting 😊

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely quiet field on Dartmoor with immediate access to footpaths and bridleways over a remote part of the Moor. Near enough South Zeal, Forder and Chagford pubs to cycle or walk. Nice site owner checking to ensure all visitors were there and happy. Little produce stall with fabulous brownies.

Disliked £25 is quite pricy for grass field pitch with electric and minimal facilities.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It's a good basic no frills campsite. Has everything you need, and lots of space to pitch. It was quiet which is what we wanted with a special needs kiddo. I didn't use the shower but the kids said it was ok. Portaloos generally ok but when we arrived on the Sunday they were pretty full and fragrant, however this resolved after they got emptied on the Monday.

Disliked Toilets - I know the site is limited by planning etc. not sure what the solution is, maybe an upgraded model of portaloos. TBF it was only the one day that they were particularly unpleasant.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Its outdoors.

Disliked Steep field, found a pitch that was relatively flat at bottom of field near boggy ground, the generator someone had running might have been annoying, then both tent poles broke and i took it as a sign to leave, on the way out someone was pooping in the bushes.
