  • Family-run site on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park
  • Just over 10 minutes’ drive to Newton Abbot and 30 to Torquay beaches
  • Bovey Tracey within 15 minutes and Paignton half an hour away
For a hol full of zest in south Devon squeeze in some time at family-run Lemonford Caravan Park, a well-located spot for exploring the many attractions in this area. It’s between country and coast right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and half an hour’s drive from the beaches around the English Riviera resorts of Torquay and Paignton. After settling in, trekkers might want to tackle the craggy terrain of Dartmoor first, scrambling over the hills and paddling in the streams and rivers of this sprawling granite-studded setting. The walk up to Hay Tor (starting from just over 10 minutes’ drive away) is stellar if you’re seeking a structured stroll: it’ll have you taking in the classic moorland scenery while you work up a sweat. Widecombe in the Moor (a 15-minute drive) is also worth stopping by for a typical Devonshire town with a cracker of a church (so splendid it's known as the Cathedral of the Moor). More of a beachcomber? You can make a beeline towards Teignmouth and Dawlish for castle-building on the sand or choose Paignton Pier for coastal sessions in between tenpin bowling, fairground rides and crazy golf (all around 30 minutes’ drive away). Leaflets for farm parks, model villages, caves and other stuff to do are all on display at the site’s information area if you’ll be looking for more attractions and activities. Also at Lemonford Caravan Park are amenities including toilets, showers, washing-up areas, a shared freezer and a laundry room; a spacious separate wetroom and toilet are also available for guests with limited mobility. For other essentials like supermarkets and town shops, Newton Abbot (just over 10 minutes away) is your hub and it has a leisure centre should kids be wanting to swap sessions on the park playground for splashing in a swimming pool.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Reasonably priced. Flat pitch with hard pitch for your vehicle beside.

Disliked: Could hear the A38 from the camping fields so would recommend ear plugs.
Toilet block wasn’t fully stocked, there was no soap and limited toilet roll. There was a bonfire one night which was smoky which stunk out the field and therefore my tent.

Liked: Nothing, the reviews made us not go !

Disliked: We planned to stay here in our caravan, then read the reviews on “Trip Advisor”.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Not a lot

Disliked: No direction signs went down few roads on site which I had to reverse out of. There was nobody on site to seek advice and the person on the phone was no help at all.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: It was close to where we needed to go.

Disliked: We were disappointed, although the site had all the facilities that someone touring would need, it had the feel of being unloved.
Toilets, cold, but reasonable clean.
Some doors hanging off in the loos, welcome was adequate, but didn't feel welcome.
It seems that the site was being used by workers from out of the area. Road noise was very noticeable. We could list more.
My disappointment is caused by the comparison visits to other campsites, the previous two were better cared for and cheaper! We paid £36 and being that is out of season!
We very sad to have to post this as we like to be positive.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: The site was easy to find and withing good reach of Buckfast Abbey & Plymouth. Theres a lovely circular walk byt the stream & up to the village church.
The pitches are level and have their own water supply.

Disliked: Unfortunately we were disappointed with our stay which prior to going there we had extended for 2 nights.
There was no one at reception so we had to hunt around to find someone who could help us on arrival.
The reception /shop opened when it felt like it which was not often.
We were not given any site plan or info ar all.
Our pitch was close to an Elsan point which was blocked and smelly for most of the time we were there and we had reported it on the 1st day to be told that it was a regular occurance.
The shower blocks were not inviting, old tiles, in the ladies every shower had missing tiles in the main area, we did not feel happy to use them.
Fireworks were let of with no prior warning, fortunately our dog is not scared of them but it could have been a different story if he had been.
Our general feeling coming away was that with very little money spent for the touring side of the business that it could be improved no end, the statics with their own facilities seemed to take priority and the rest..well we will take your money but make no effort for your stay.
Needless to say, we wont be returning.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Despite the other reviews, I found the toilets and shower block clean and there was always tp available, but maybe because it was already the end of the holiday period. Nice simple pitch area for a tent, was great for 2 nights. Simple check in process via phone.

Disliked: As others mentioned, the road noise is relatively loud. There was NO WiFi on site at all, staff said it is being installed so may be available in the future.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: The chap at the front desk was friendly

Disliked: This campsite has won the award for both the most expensive and worst campsite I have ever stayed in. To be fair, I mostly like fields but was going to an event nearby so thought I'd try it. When I got there at lunchtime I was directed to an area that felt like a disused carpark with loads of litter, broken children's toys etc. Went to the loo, there was poo or something brown smeared on one door. When I came back after the event, the toilet block was partially flooded from a shower, now one toilet had poo on the seat, the second still had poo on the door, (I took a wet wipe and it would have easily been cleaned off) and the third had poo left in the loo which was at least flushable. They said it would be £36 which was more than enough but actually charged £39 with no explanation for the extra and they want you to get out by 10am. I always love camping and find the joy in each site apart from this one I'm sorry to say

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: The choice to pick where you want to pitch up is good, as long as they tell you the white boxes are the ones you need! nice looking site, small play park for the kids.
In a remote place if that's what you want..

Disliked: The toilets had no toilet roll in, the bins were overflowing and it was not stated what pitches we should stay on due to me paying for electric, it should have been made clear when calling to check in, would be avoided if there was someone on site to help.
You had to find your own way round and facilities.

Local attractions

It’s 10 minutes’ drive from here to Buckfast Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery dating back to 1018; get cultural here then balance it out with an offbeat activity like a trip to the House of Marbles in the small town of Bovey Tracey (under 15 minutes away) for the mesmerising glass displays, games museum and pottery pieces. For urban times in a bigger settlement, Exeter’s 30 minutes away – skedaddle here to tour the cathedral and the city centre’s underground passages; high-street shopping is also excellent in Devon’s capital on the River Exe. Also on the water, Plymouth is 35 minutes south if you fancy checking out the famed spot where the Pilgrim fathers first left for the US on the Mayflower in 1620...
