  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Rabbit Field electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Loved the very clean facilities, the food truck selling cocktails was a great option. Really loved the views and the peaceful atmosphere. Really love place to stay. Will be back regularly

Disliked: Nothing really- I did think the telephone box could/ would be a lovely book exchange? There were no displays or list as to what bakery items were on offer from the shop

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for the lovely review! 🌿✨ We're thrilled you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful views, and of course—the cocktails from the food truck 🍹😉 It's always our goal to make every stay special, and hearing that you'll be back regularly means the world to us 💚

Great suggestion about the telephone box—turning it into a book exchange 📚 is such a charming idea, and we’re absolutely taking that on board and will start to collect some books! We'll also make sure the bakery offerings are more clearly displayed next time 🥐📝

Can’t wait to welcome you back soon! 🌞🐦

Bay View electric grass and gravel tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very lovely view and staff were so friendly. Toilet facilities were always clean and they even had a dishwasher. Pitches were good size.

Disliked: Toilets were a far distance from bay view when it’s raining. Ground was very muddy and we were sinking.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 We're really happy you enjoyed the views, friendly team, and clean facilities — and yes, that little campsite dishwasher is always a hit! 🍽️✨

We’re sorry to hear the wet weather made things tricky near Bay View – the rain definitely makes things a bit squelchy sometimes ☔🌧️ We’ll keep working on improving ground conditions there.

Hope to welcome you back soon for another stay (hopefully with sunnier skies!) 🌤️🏕️

From the manager: Thanks so much for the great review! 😄 We're really happy you found the site friendly and the facilities nice and clean 🧼🚿 Glad you got to try the food van too🍔

That hill down into town is no joke! 🏔️😂 We admire your adventurous spirit, luckily we have some local taxi companies to use that are a firm favourite at the park – and totally agree, the cliff railway is a must-do 🚡🌄 Thanks for the tip for our future guests!

Hope to see you again soon for another memorable stay! 🏕️💚

Beggars Field electric grass tent or campervan pitch (small)

Liked: Breathtaking location, amazing views with plenty of space to run around, picnic etc. Well organised back office, sweet cocktail and milkshake bar on site, amazing facilities including a dishwasher and ice machine and immaculate loos and showers. Some food served onsite as well. One of the most incredible aspects of this site is the direct path you can take to trek the hills to Lynmouth and Lynton. Can't wait to come back, surpassed our expectations.

Disliked: The pitches are on the smaller side so you don't really get much privacy but all the benefits outweigh this aspect. I think it would be helpful to try and arrange families near to each other which would put families at ease but also would give privacy to those that don't have children. However due to all the activities nearby, the site is more of a home base rather than an all day kick back.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic review! 😊 We're thrilled to hear that the location, views, and all the facilities exceeded your expectations 🌄✨ It's great to know you enjoyed the cocktail bar 🍹and the beautiful hill walks to Lynmouth and Lynton — the scenery really is something special! 🏞️

We appreciate your feedback on the pitch sizes and will certainly keep that in mind to enhance the experience for future stays.

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon for more adventures! 🏕️💚

Camping pod (sea view)

Liked: Site was well positioned for local visitor attractions. Staff welcoming and very friendly. Pod was 'basic' but well good enough for a five night stay. Facilities were well maintained as was the whole site. Toilets and showers kept very clean. Just opened as I left the site, a take away food van which should be there now most weekends. Good value food.

Disliked: Minor issue, that the pod I stayed in, one of three, was in shade most of the time due to the trees above them. This meant missing the sun unless you moved away from your pitch.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! 😊 We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and found the site clean, well-positioned, and our team welcoming 🌟 It’s great to hear the pod suited your needs and that you got to check out the new food van too – we're excited for guests to enjoy it 🍔🚚

Thanks also for the feedback about the shade 🌳—we’ll definitely keep that in mind as we look to improve guest comfort. Hope to welcome you back soon for another relaxing stay! 🏕️✨

Beggar's Field electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (water hook-up)

Liked: Location, staff, cleanliness, facilities, spacious pitch

Disliked: Showers didn’t stay on very long for each push of the button & could have been a touch warmer. WiFi was a little temperamental but not a big issue

From the manager: Hey! 😊
Thank you so much for your feedback – we're really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and that you enjoyed the location 🌊🌿, staff, cleanliness and facilities🚿🧼!

We really do appreciate your honest feedback about the showers and WIFI. We are so sorry about the internet and just a heads up, we do currently have workers on site this week! They are here to upgrade our WIFI so hopefully we don't come across these issues again in the future💛

We hope to welcome you back at some point!🌿🚐

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
