  • Smart family-run park within Woodbury Common
  • Easy drive into Exeter
  • Excellent facilities including bar, bistro and play area
They say an Englishman’s (motor)home is his castle – so when choosing where to brake, you’ll want a spot fit for a king. Castle Brake Holiday Park in east Devon should pass muster: it’s a smart, family-run park within the heathland of Woodbury Common, ideally placed for an invasion of Exeter and the sought-after sands of the Jurassic Coast. The facilities are splendid: a spotless, cedar-clad amenities block with underfloor heating and family bathrooms; a laundry room; the Castle Inn bar and restaurant for homemade nosh using local ingredients (takeaways are also available); a play area; and ample space for a peaceful stroll and a bit of wildlife spotting. (Please note that the bar and restaurant are not open every evening during low season.) Castle Brake Holiday Park is within half an hour's walk of the village of Woodbury, which has a handful of good pubs and shops, or it’s an easy ride into Exeter for anything else you might need.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (premium)

Liked Lovely quiet site, large field to exercise the dog. More importantly the welcome we received was second to none and bar staff very welcoming too.

Disliked Was a bit to close to road, but had a hedge between that did softened the noise a bit.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Staff and facilities, especially having your services by your pitch rather on the other side of the site!

Disliked The ludicrous decision to place a Childrens play area within 30 mts of people's Tents! One afternoon an adult and a few kids were playing Football within a few metres of Campers Tents, inc mine!. Out of my 4 nights stay the play area was being used until around 10.00pm every night, then on my last night they were being rowdy until midnight. I informed reception staff on my departure and was assured that my complaint will be taken on board, where i suggested that the play area should be gated and locked at 9.00pm, also another suggestion would be to inform the "PARENTS" on check-in that kids are not allowed in the play area after 9.00pm.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Staff were very friendly and helpful, shower block was clean with plenty of hot water.
Bar/restaurant more than adequate for our needs with good freshly cooked food. Level pitches.

Disliked Quite a few thistles growing up through gravel on pitch (but only took about 10mins to pull up using claw hammer.
Please can someone explain why there is a fee to bring a small car towed behind a motorhome but using a car to tow a caravan there is no fee, a motorhome or caravan stays on site for the duration of holiday and a car is used for days out, so what's the difference??

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Close to some lovely villages, Woodbury Salterton within walking distance. Facilities excellent, shop selling the essentials. Had a bar if you fancied a drink and or a meal. Ideal location for visiting Lyme Regis, Sidmouth etc. one part of site had seasonal pitches all grouped together, and also static caravans for sale.

Disliked Not a lot.

Local attractions

Six miles from Castle Brake Holiday Park are the red cliffs of Budleigh Salterton and the family-friendly sands of Exmouth, gateways to the glories of the Jurassic Coast. A little further along the coast is Sidmouth, which features ravishing Regency architecture along its sweeping esplanade. Whether you’re a culture hound or an outdoorsy creature, there’s plenty to do within easy reach: exit into Exeter, an attractive cathedral city brimming with museums and historic sites, or delve into Dartmoor, for more remote adventures. For splashy and screamy fun, a wilderness woodland, indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, farm animals and more, head to the Crealy Great Adventure Park, a mere four miles up the road from Castle Brake. Or try the World of Country Life, which has a petting zoo, indoor and outdoor rides and slides, vintage steam engines, museums and events as eclectic as welly wanging and the six nations ferret races...
