  • Old-fashioned site with modern facilities
  • A 10-minute walk to beach, dunes and nature reserve of Dawlish Warren
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, minutes from the Blue Flag Devon coastline and a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… you might want two weeks at least at Leadstone Camping (Leadstone Holiday Park) in Dawlish Warren, ta. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have the best time possible: although this is traditional and uncommercialised camping, standards are modern, including a redeveloped amenities block with showers, toilets, free hot water to basins, a hairdryer, baby changing unit and an accessible room with shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and nosh, a supermarket is a mile away, and anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way.

Liked: The site was extremely clean and very friendly; the site is a little gem that we discovered and will be back.
easy walking distance to the town and beach.
something to don't get much at campsite is a dog wash, so this was a bonus.
plus, the signal is brilliant.
will be back.

Liked: Very good shower & washing up facilities in warm, clean rooms. A lovely warm welcome and farewell. Great location for Dawlish Warren & Dawlish (bus stop right outside).

Disliked: Some of the pitches are sloped so choose carefully if this is important to you.

Liked: We love staying here!
2nd time visiting and will be booking for a third.
The staff are so friendly and helpful! The staff never seem to stop working, and even the music in the toilet areas is a great thought!
I don't mind paying 20p for a shower at all, they are hot and clean and spacious to allow an adult stay dry whilst helping with younger children. I stayed here as a single female with 2 children and I always felt self with them.
Amanda's on site (coffee shack) is so reasonably priced & my kids absolutely love the candy floss and that is a bargain!
The dawlish warren beach is a 10 minute walk away (slight uphill on way back) but there is so much to do and icecreams to help on the way back.
Shop onsite, again reasonable prices and hold all necessities.
We are already looking forward to staying in July!

Fox electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: The ground was flat and even. The facilities were clean and warm. Hosts were friendly and welcoming.

Disliked: Paying 20p for the shower. The family room in the female toilets doesn’t warn you when running low and it cuts out. Put another 20p in and it’s freezing and takes a while to warm up again wasting your 5 minutes you get. There was viagra and vibrating cock rings which I really think is inappropriate on a family site in a vending machine in the toilets. The other people in caravans weren’t very friendly and I don’t know if this was due to them being residents but the whole atmosphere wasn’t very nice. We booked 4 nights and only stayed 1 night.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us, and you left early. We always hope that if there is a problem we can fix it at the time. We will have a look at the family shower and fix any issues so hopefully no one else experiences the same issue. we only have 9 showers so by having a small charge it helps to ensure no one has to queue for to long in our busy times. We have 4 camping fields that helps us to cater for all our guests requests were sorry that wasn't achieved for your holiday on this occasion.

Badger electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Clean facilities, easy to find, good access to bus and train. Second time here.

Disliked: 20p shower charge (I had forgotten about it but had some change with me) it does take longer than 10 minutes to walk down to the warren but not too bad (uphill on the way back!) WiFi available but at a charge.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season. Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists. On foot, walk the half mile to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
