  • Freeview TV, well-equipped kitchen and private decking with a firepit
Time to escape to Devon? If you’re searching for a luxurious and romantic break in peaceful lakeside surroundings, consider The Tiny House at Little Dunley Cottages, five minutes’ drive from the pretty market town of Bovey Tracey and 10 minutes from Dartmoor National Park. The Tiny House provides bijou, adults-only holiday accommodation, and as its name suggests, it is indeed a compact house – however, you’ll be pleased to see that quite a lot has been squeezed inside. It’s fitted with air conditioning to keep things cool in summer and toasty in winter. The living area comprises a comfy sofa, Freeview TV, a small dining table and chairs (move them on to the private decking if the weather permits), and a floor-to-ceiling window letting in the rural views. A kitchen area comes complete with a sink, hob, fridge and all the bits you need to cater for two. The ensuite bathroom has a powerful shower, and upstairs, there’s a king-size double in the bedroom – please note that the ceiling is very low – and all towels and bedding are provided. Moving outside, you have a private decking area with a firepit (pick up barbecue supplies in the Bovey Tracey essentials shop). The garden is fenced, making it safe and secure if you’re bringing the dog to share your Devon adventure.

Local attractions

Travel back to prehistory in Dartmoor National Park with yomps to the megaliths at Scorhill and Fernworthy stone circles (both 40 minutes’ drive), or stroll across the stone arches of the 17th-century bridge at Fingle (35 minutes). See glamorous apartments at the Sir Edwin Lutyens-designed Castle Drogo (half an hour), or walk amid ancient woodland to the cascades at Becky Falls (15 minutes). For a day at the coast, head for Teignmouth (20 minutes), where you can laze on the beach on warmer days, play amusements on the Grand Pier and eat fish and chips on the prom. You may care to strike out along sections of the South West Coast Path from Teignmouth too, taking in tiny bays including Totem Cove (55 minutes’ walk) and the red-sand beach at Badger Cove (an hour and 15 minutes). Stover Country Park (five minutes’ drive) is the spot for gentler ambles round the lake. When you feel like channelling your inner child, Crealy Theme Park and Resort (25 minutes) has an abundance of thrill rides and log flumes, or how about seeing the sights of England in miniature at Babbacombe Model Village (also 25 minutes)?

The Tiny House 1 bedroom microlodge

Liked: Looked very nice in photos

Disliked: Arrived and found loads of dead/alive flies, spent the first half an hour or more cleaning up, phoned owner who came and took a look around and apologised, but was still finding these flies during the night and next morning, shower leaking and no extraction fan, broken handle on bathroom door, kitchen clock not working. Had to antibac everywhere ( with our own wipes) because of these flies

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Firstly I would like to apologise that our expected standards were not met on this occasion, this is something we take very seriously, nor is it something we have had issues with previously. We now have an additional system in place for the checking of the properties to ensure this won't happen again.

I am pleased to confirm all the issues listed have now taken care of and fixed.

I hope you did enjoy your night here with us and again I'm sorry we didn't live up to the expectations on this occasion.

Thank you from The Little Dunley Team.
