  • Family-run glamping in woodland on the edge of Dartmoor National Park
  • Becky Falls 10 minutes’ drive and River Dart Country Park 15 minutes
  • Well-furnished bell tents with woodburners and shared showers
Reconnect with nature in nattily kitted-out bell tents at the pop-up Bovey Heath Retreat, five minutes’ drive from Bovey Tracey in Devon. This micro-site has set up a handful of bell tents – with beds, storage, sofas and pretty interior decor – in a small copse of trees right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, creating just the right blend of modern comfort and rural retreat. Spot on for couples and small families, each of the canvas tents houses a double bed, cosy furnishings and thoughtful extras like a kitchenette, picnic area and woodburning stove. Bedding and cooking essentials are included for a hassle-free stay, as well as phone-charging points in the tents. Private toilets and shared showers are conveniently located nearby. Thanks to the lack of light pollution in these parts, this site lends itself well to stargazing on clear nights, and you will also wake up every morning to birdsong. The site is eco-conscious, small-scale and family-run, giving you a peaceful hideaway from which to explore the Devon coast and Dartmoor.

Poppy bell tent (four person)

Liked When you run a business with your heart, and not as a simple business, you achieve what the owner of this establishment has achieved.

It's not only an incredible place to stay, enjoy, and feel good, but also a place you'll love and want to return to.

What a treat! She's thought of every detail and more. Nothing cheap, everything quality, from the bedding, the bathroom towel, the tent equipment, the shower, the kitchen utensils... I felt it wasn't about making money, but about creating something unique, and she certainly achieved that.

All of us (my husband and two children, ages 3 and 7) loved it. We stayed in the Poppy tent. It's very spacious and has a wooden chest full of children's games for outdoor play, coloring books, card games, books for children and adults... Plus, there are different games, activities, and toys for purchase in the kitchen, which I found very useful, as on rainy days you can entertain your children by painting cups or doing other activities without leaving the tent. Additionally, there are marshmallows, chocolate, sweets, and extra firewood—a must for us, as we love the wood-burning fireplace. We found the prices very reasonable.

The tent, bathroom, shower, and kitchen were spotless, which is essential for me, as I have OCD and struggle with dirt.

The location was perfect for us, two minutes from the House of Marble, the Jolly Roger, and all kinds of restaurants and services, 13 minutes from the River Dart Park, and 25 minutes from Crealy.

We tried the Chinese takeaway recommended by the owner in the welcome pack, and it was great and quite affordable.

I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to be in nature with all the comforts.

We can only say THANK YOU!!! for having us and see you soon 😊

Disliked Nothing on site, but I could hear traffic from the nearby highway.

Violet bell tent (six person)

Liked We had the most wonderful stay at this gorgeous glamping spot tucked away in the woods near Bovey. The location is absolutely ideal – we were able to explore so many stunning places and beaches, all within an hour’s drive.

Evenings were pure magic, sitting around the fire pit under the fairy lights, toasting marshmallows .The tent itself was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, with so many thoughtful touches. There were games to keep the kids entertained( 2x older ones and 8 year old), picnic blankets, and all the essentials like plates, mugs, and cutlery.

The kitchenette was brilliantly equipped with everything you could possibly need, and the large gas BBQ was a real blessing – it made cooking breakfast and dinner quick and easy. The bio toilet was kept immaculately clean and was emptied daily, which we really appreciated.

The host is truly amazing – it’s clear how much care and effort has gone into creating such a special place. Every detail has been thought of to make the stay as comfortable and memorable as possible.

We absolutely loved our stay and the kids didn’t want to leave. Can’t recommend it highly enough – we’ll definitely be back!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review!

We’re absolutely delighted to hear you and your family had such a magical stay with us. It means the world to know you enjoyed the location, the little touches in the tent, and evenings by the fire pit toasting marshmallows under the fairy lights – that’s exactly the kind of experience we hope to create.

We’re so pleased the kids enjoyed themselves (even if it made leaving harder!) and that you found the facilities comfortable and well-equipped. Your kind words about the care we put into the place really do make all the effort worthwhile.

We can’t wait to welcome you all back for more adventures and cosy evenings in the woods!

Poppy bell tent (four person)

Liked This was such an amazing find! Only 2 pitches but well spaced apart. A proper woodland camp with so much provided:-

The tent: huge bell tent with double bed with linen/pillows, 2 sofa beds and so many nice little touches: a welcome box full of goodies, some games and books, phone charger points and nice lighting.

Outdoor: private table/chairs picnic table, a large, decent gas BBQ as well as an outdoor firepit which makes any camp so much cosier!

Composting toilet was clean and odourless and private, and the shared outdoor shower was quirky and large.

I stayed with 3 children (9,13 and 15) who love the outdoors and have stayed in quite a few places over the years. They rated it as one of, if not, their favourite! Even without WiFi - though that is never really that important when camping like this! The phone signal was decent enough and managed to stream a few sports events over the stay.

The owners could not be more helpful and are on hand to help or top up wood/sawdust/water etc. Clearly a hardworking family with a passion for nature and a desire to make guest stays comfortable and memorable.

Bovey Tracey is just down the road with loads of food shopping options, takeaways if needed,
and the community swimming pool which always gets a visit when we're down this way.

A great location for Dartmoor and springboard for other Devon and Cornwall activities. Eden Project this time - 1hr 20m.

Feels safe and secure with a pin activated entrance gate and allocated parking.

We had a wonderful 4 nights and really didn't want to leave.

A great little place...outdoors, in the woods but with so much on your doorstep.

Disliked Nothing to dislike here.
