  • Small peaceful site on a private nature reserve in north Devon
  • Two miles from Bideford and within 10 minutes of award-winning beaches
  • Within easy reach of the Tarka Trail
Want to get away from the chaos of modern life without sacrificing too many of your creature comforts? At Owl Valley Glamping, a peaceful site less than two miles from the town of Bideford in north Devon, you get the best of both worlds: no internet, no electricity – just somewhere comfy to spend your break. What a hoot. Owl Valley is paradise for walkers, nature spotters and sand fans: the site is a 10-minute drive from the beach at Westward Ho! and under an hour from the north Devon coast. The 32-mile traffic-free Tarka Trail for walkers and cyclists is within easy reach, passing through nearby Bideford, and there are plenty of walks along the South West Coast Path too. Back on site, explore the private nature reserve that you’ll be calling home during your stay: wander through the woodlands, sit on the banks of the pond or stream and, at all times, keep your eyes peeled for wildflowers, butterflies, woodland birds and the occasional deer. When it's time for dinner, fire up your barbecue or get that campfire going – you can pick up supplies and essentials in Bideford, or just skip cooking altogether and have a bite at one of the quayside town’s restaurants. Don’t expect to be bingeing Netflix in the evenings – instead, kick back and turn your gaze to the stars, unwinding with the sounds of owls’ hooting and the stream running through the site playing in your ears.

Long-eared geodesic dome

Liked: Amazing site and hosts. Everything had been so carefully thought of making the stay brilliant and so easy. We stayed in the dome and it was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The outdoor kitchen had everything we needed. The wood-fired hot tub was incredible - we used it every evening while listening to a cacophony of owls! The site itself was stunning - hidden away so you can only hear the birds and the stream and with hidden places for the kids to explore. We loved the small shop! We’re planning our next visit there and can’t wait to go back.

Disliked: Nothing!

Barn Owl cabin (hot tub)

Liked: It was exactly what we wanted. For one, no phone service so the teenager was forced to socialise lol, but also ment we felt fully away from it all. The hut was the perfect size for four, and lovely and warm on a rainy February. Chris had already lit the fire for the hot tube when we arrived and it was the perfect temperature. The kitchen had all you could need to cook and was covered enough to keep the rain out. The bathroom was very clean.

Barn Owl cabin (hot tub)

Liked: We absolutely loved staying here. Lots of freedom for children and ours loved exploring the forest and games room. The tree swing was a bonus also. Such a cute, off grid find and we will definitely be back. Chris was so kind and helpful. Thank you

Barn Owl cabin (hot tub)

Liked: We had an absolutely wonderful time! Would highly recommend. Chris and the team were brilliant and very accommodating.

When we arrived, Chris met us in the car park. He drove our luggage down to the hut on his quad bike to save us carrying it (the carpark is a 5-10 min walk from the accommodation).

The accommodation was amazing! The hut was clean and had all of your essentials for a cosy night away from reality. There were board games available to play, there was a private hot tub on the decking and if that's not enough the quiet, secluded location made stargazing feel extra special. There were Plenty of blankets and hot water bottles available. We used them late evening to sit outside and watch the stars. Our 9 year old loved spotting the shooting stars!
When we arrived Chris had already started the fires for us so the cabin was warm and the hot tub was ready to go! There is plenty of wood included to keep things going but more available on site to purchase.
We had burgers for tea in the evening and used the gas grill but there is also a bbq available to use. There are all of your basic kitchen essentials provided. Pans, plates, cutlery, cups and glasses. There is also a kettle.

On site there's an entertainment room with a piano, pool table, dart board, books and games.

The honesty hut had a range of essentials and was a 2 minute walk. We used this to top up on the wood several times so this was super convenient!

There is no electricity, internet or phone signal which made a lovely change and really did give us a break from the every stresses of normal life.

Really would highly recommend! We will 100% be returning.

Tawny cabin (hot tub)

Liked: Unbelievable find, excellent location accommodation and host. The host went put of his way to meet us when we arrived and took all of our luggage down to the site to save us the walk. Very friendly and encouraged the kids to have fun and explore. The site is perfect for that getaway and enabled us to just relax. All the small details that have gone into this site make it a very special place.

Disliked: Nothing

Short-Eared bell tent

Liked: Chris was a fantastic host, very welcoming and took all our bags down to the bell tent, it was fabulous, well stocked, clean and such a beautiful place. Lovely to have time off grid without TV or phones. Games room was full of stuff to do. Recommend building dens with the kids, we had great fun in the dark hunting for random sticks. The fire pit was a lovely ending to our night with wood and fire lighters already there. Listening to the owls and running stream, even the rain didn't spoil it. The compostable toilet and hot shower were clean and tidy. Beds comfortable, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We had a brilliant stay, wish it could have been longer. Thank you for a lovely night's stay.

Local attractions

If you haven’t had enough of walking from your excursions on the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail, never fear: Owl Valley is 40 minutes’ drive from Exmoor National Park, where there are plenty of trails and long-distance routes. There’s also canoeing, sea kayaking, fishing, horse riding and mountain biking to get stuck into, and the less active can pay a visit to Dunster Castle, take a trip on the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway funicular or the West Somerset Railway steam train, or bring the kids to Exmoor Zoo or Watermouth Castle Theme Park. For those who like living at least part of their life on the water, there’s loads to do close to Owl Valley. Have a go at kayaking, body boarding, surfing and rafting in Westward Ho!, or climb aboard a boat in Ilfracombe to spy out dolphins, seals and porpoises on sea safari. A visit to Clovelly is a must – the stunning seaside village, 20 minutes from Owl Valley, has oodles of character. It’s also entirely traffic free, so you can wander the cobbled streets sharing the roads with donkeys and human-powered sledges, and looking out over Bideford bay.
