Family camping fun

  • Family-friendly Cornish holiday park on Trevose Head
  • A 15 minute-drive from Padstow and half an hour from Newquay
  • Sandy beaches nearby: Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay 20 minutes' walk
With its lighthouse, coastal vistas and fab beaches, Trevose Head is something like the Cornish coast in miniature. If you're looking for seaside capers with your nearest and dearest, Harlyn Sands could well be the place. The site is family-run and works hard to be a welcoming spot for you and your tribe. Younger kids are well served here, as there's a play area, TV and games rooms and kids' club to keep them happily occupied. In the evening, there are special events for all to enjoy (and a bar is on hand for mums and dads who fancy a nightcap after the show). Harlyn Sands is also a handy kind of place: there's a food shop on site should you need to stock up on essentials. Barbecues are allowed for alfresco dining, but takeaway options are also available if you'd rather skip the cooking. If you need a supermarket, take a 15-minute drive down the road to Padstow. The site makes no secret of the fact that it caters mostly to families (furry friends included), so teens need to be mindful that they don't stay out too late or disturb the peace.

What customers say

This site boasts an exceptional location, just a short walk from stunning beaches, with many praising the friendly and helpful staff. While the pitches are often described as large and well-laid-out, some visitors found facilities, particularly toilets and showers, to be dated and in need of maintenance. The site is popular with families, offering plentiful entertainment and activities for children. Some guests noted issues with overcrowding and noise, and the cost of additional facilities like the pool was a point of contention for some.

Beach Field Zone 2 electric grass pitch

Liked Brilliant location, short walk to so many beaches and a lovely hours walk on the coastal path to Treyarnon Bay which is gorgeous. We even did the slightly longer 6 mile walk into padstow on the coastal path.
Amenities were clean and had plenty of toilets and showers. Shop onsite had whatever we needed for our stay.
Gorgeous view from the pitch and lots of space on the beach field.

Disliked As we were parked on the beach field the toilets were a decent distance away, it was fine for our two night stay but worth noting if thinking of staying longer!

Disliked Shame we couldn’t say the food was good but wasn’t Ollie’s fish and chip shop was not a good experience in fact it was a complete waste of time and money 1hour wait for poor quality food 2 sausage chips chips and “kebab”meat ? £32 tasted disgusting susies diner wasn’t to bad slightly better quality food but tried ordering food 830 waiting 25 minutes at the counter to be told the chef isn’t cooking anything else it was a complete letdown

Beach Field Zone 2 electric grass pitch

Liked How close we were to the beach (field 2) the staff were lovely.
The beach is absolutely beautiful. Less than a minute to watch stunning sunrise/sunset over the beach. The site is close to trevone natural pool and everyone should definitely go take a look and have a swim. Shop was fully stocked and staff were helpful

Disliked The clubhouse. It's small, outdated and there is just not enough space.
The arcade. It's dreadful! Outdated, small the machines are terrible. Its a shame because it has potential. There really isn't enough to keep the kids entertained.
Shower block is outdated but clean. 20p for a short shower was a but of a nightmare.
We did get battered by the wind in the beachfield so keep that in mind when booking a tent. Although this isn't relevant to the park.

Beach Field Zone 2 electric grass pitch

Liked The view was amazing and staff were friendly and helpful. The beach was right on your front door step.

Disliked Toilet blocks were dated but cleaners kept it clean. A little annoying you have to pay for showers even though it’s cheap it seems unnecessary when you pay so much per night.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The location being close to Harlyn Bay but that's as far as it goes.

Disliked 1. Noise - The welcome pack stipulates no noise before 8am and after 10pm. Yet the staff drive around in noisy 4 x 4 from 5am. The club also stays open until 12pm and it is unbearably loud.
2. Clientele/Service - We were unfortunate enough to try food at the on site diner which was terrible. There was a football match being played with supporters amongst children swearing. I brought this to the attention of the security guard often found hunched over a fry up and rather than assist he advised that there was other locations my children could sit, notwithstanding they couldn't as they were eating. Not to mention you would expect a security guard to address those shouting profanities at the TV screen.
3. The arcade machines were in a large part broken or swallowing money without allowing my children to play. Many machines advise of a £1 payment per go when in fact they are just 50 pence such as the punchbag which is very dishonest. Aligned was the fact my son one a major prize on a tetris style game. An error code was presented and we once gain raised this with staff. A young member of staff turned the socket on and off. The machine still displaying an error code. He then advised the manager would resolved. Having waited 30minutes for the manager. When I finally managed to capture his attention he said that he wouldn't take my sons' word for the win and would instead review CCTV to corroborate but would do so the following day. I asked to leave my details so he could contact us and he refused. Alas, we havent heard back.
4. Avoid this place like the plaugue. There are plenty of alternative locations.

Local attractions

Folk in search of some beach time have come to the right spot, as Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay can both be reached within 20 minutes on foot. Guarded by the RNLI between May and September, these splendid stretches of sand are hubs for snorklers and swimmers, and each has its own surf school - mighty handy if you want to learn to board in a safe environment. Padstow (15 minutes' drive) is a fishing town that's quite a draw for foodies seeking fresh, locally sourced products. Whether you fancy good old fish and chips or Michelin-starred dining, you can be pretty sure you'll find it here. Newquay, a major surf resort, is half an hour away. As well as the seafront, head here for buccaneering adventures at Pirate's Quest activity centre, or get up close and personal with marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium. Just up the coast from Newquay (40 minutes from base) is Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, home to both fine scrumpy and cute cuddly farm animals. The South Cornwall coast is also within easy reach: drive 40 minutes down through the countryside if you fancy a trip to the Eden Project or St Austell.
