  • Family-friendly site on spectacular Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast
  • Less than two miles from the beaches and surf spots of Bude
  • Seven acres of scenic countryside for walks and dog walking
Pack those hiking boots, make sure cameras are fully charged and snag yourself a stay at Willow Valley Camping Park, a family-friendly site in the Cornish village of Bush, five minutes’ drive from the coastal town of Bude – you’ll most definitely want to put those legs to good use. The site is on the stunning Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast, with sandy beaches to stroll along, cliff walks to follow and plenty of spectacular treats to stumble on during travels, like the clifftop village of Clovelly, where cars are banned and donkeys are the main mode of transport. The fab long-distance South West Coast Path passes through Bude too, so lengthier rambles are within easy reach. There’s a fair share of exploration to do on site too if a day at base appeals: seven acres of walks to wander (and dog walks as well, so bring pooch along), and a spacious adventure play park for the kids if they need a bit of distraction or grownups need a chance to unwind. A small on-site shop will keep moods up during high season, taking the stress out of packing by stocking the basic essentials and giving little sugar bursts as needed (check out the selection of treats to get that all-essential fix). For more substantial fare, Bude has plenty of options for local eats.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: small campsite with easy access from main road. Quite a narrow bridge to go over to get on to the site but we had no issues with this. clean toilets and showers. Lovely little stream running down the side which was lovely to listen to. We had electric hook up and there was a few water points situated around which was good. Very very friendly and helpful owners and staff. Wifi worked well but had to keep reconnecting as would through us off a couple of times a day.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very warm welcome and friendly owners of site. Super clean toilets and showers and great size pitches. Liked the mix of accommodation on site. Nice play area for children and field exercise area for dogs. Can walk into Bude from site, just over two miles each way, bit hilly in places but pretty villages and pub in Poughill to stop at if needing a break. Smaller site that it looks in the photos.

Disliked: Closer than it looked in photos to main road but noise is not a problem.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: A friendly welcome Recently done up so all new and fresh. Washing area for dogs and wet suits. Not too far from Bude. A taxi back to the site was about £12. Possible to walk there and back if you don't mind hills. Good size, level hard standing. Play park and games for children. Pretty site with a stream. Good pub in Poughill which you can walk to (again, if you don't mind hills).

Disliked: Showers stopped and started quickly. You had to keep pressing the button. The washing up area was open air which was fine in good weather, might be a bit fresh when raining or windy. No designated dog walking area.

Millook 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: Absolutely brilliant experience. Was informed by the owners that there would be construction work happening near where we had booked i.e the Shepherds hut and was offered a move to the converted school bus at no extra cost. The check in procedure was simple and staff were really cheerful and helpful. The bus was very clean and cozy

Disliked: Although the bus was cozy there was a lot of condensation that was causing the bedding to get damp

Local attractions

Start any stay here with an immediate jaunt into Bude – there’ll be something here for everyone. There are splashing times to be had on the town’s Widemouth, Crooklets and Summerleaze surf beaches (all about 10 minutes’ drive from base) and with a few hours of coasteering, paddleboarding or swimming in the sheltered sea pool. Anyone who prefers to stay on dry land can visit the heritage centre in Bude Castle or pass by the town’s oldest house, Quay Cottage. Keep one foot in homes of the past by tripping around stately piles and seeing how the one percenters of yore lived hereabouts: within 45 minutes of base, wandering the halls and rooms of Hartland Abbey, Pencarrow House and the Lawrence House Museum comes highly recommended. The stunning cliffside ruins of Tintagel Castle (believed to be the place where legendary King Arthur was conceived) and the pretty RHS Garden Rosemoor are within 40 minutes for easy scenic strolls and explores. There’s plenty to keep kids entertained too: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep amusement park and trips on the Launceston Steam Railway are within half an hour. If longer car rides aren’t a problem, Crealy Adventure Park, Exmoor Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium and the fab Eden Project are a little over an hour away.
