  • Pop-up Cornwall camping field on a working farm near Bude
  • A 15-minute drive to surfing beaches and the South West Coast Path
  • Walks on site; pubs, shops and watersports within a 15-minute drive
A wild camping site among hay meadows on an arable farm, Meadow Farm Camping has extensive views over a patchwork of Cornish fields. It’s also in pole position for surfers, walkers and beach-loving families, as it's just 15 minutes’ drive from the coast and the long-distance South West Coast Path. Simple on-site facilities include a communal picnic table and running water available at the pitches (there’s a pond with a water fountain), with loos and a shower block within the camping field. Guests also have access to a washing-up point and a communal fridge. It’s completely off grid, so there’s no electricity – you may want to bring a torch, and pack barbecues and firepits if you want to cook on site. Please pick your own camping spot on arrival. Dogs are very welcome, but keep them on a lead when you’re exercising them on the farm’s various footpaths. One such footpath leads from the site to the Tamar Lakes (a 50-minute walk or a 10-minute drive), where you can get out on the water, stroll waterside paths and give the bike an airing. The buzzy seaside town of Bude (15 minutes) has a well-known surfing beach, with gear hire and lessons available as well. It’s also the place for picking up essentials for your campfire suppers, and if you’d rather have a break from cooking, the town also has lots of cosy pubs, tea shops and seafront cafés. It's also well worth noting down that there is a café on the farm two minutes' walk away from the site; eat in or take away breakfasts, pasties and coffees.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Natural setting with plenty of space. Facilities were very well thought out and maintained. Hosts were very friendly and helpful with advice. This site worked out very well for us. A great location if you wish to be in a quieter area a bit away from the tourist beaches..

Disliked: We were there as school terms were just about to begin, so the number of campers was decreasing on the day we arrived, leaving just two pitches in use. Consequently we had no competition for using the two integrated toilet & shower units. I would doubt that these would be sufficient at a more busy time - if two people took showers and shaved, no-one else would have access to use a loo until they'd finished.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Really small campsite with only 3 electric pitches lots of space for nonEHU grass pitch although slightly on an uneven surface.
Owner, Tina was really friendly. Sent a message to us before arrival so we knew where to go. Came and greeted us and took payment cash / card.
Lovely little park with 2 swings a slide and goal posts. Loads of space for the small children to run.
Very clean 2 toilets with showers in. Espérate washing up area with sockets and fridge/freezer and washing machine!
A cafe is at the top of the hill also!

Disliked: Pitches aren’t level but this didn’t both us in our campervan.
Phone signal is not great here - not a problem for us but may be for others.
There is noise of the local quarry working during day hours.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Possibly the quietest site we’ve stayed at, surrounded by fields. Great for walking the dog. Owners were lovely and very helpful. Proper showers, no push buttons!
Really handy to have fridges and a freezer to use.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The pitch was on a edge of a huge field alongside a hedgerow and close the the toilet/shower unit which was in excellent condition. We had the water, electric supplyand hard standing. There was a small play area for children. We were the only motorhome on site, so it was quite. The site is well maintained and in nice surroundings. The way onto the site was passed and around the back of the farm buildings, through a gateway and down pathway that starts quite steep. We like the site it was in a good location and was great for our needs. Not sure about elsan facilities, as we didn't need them.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

If you’re surfing mad, you can soon be catching your first break at Bude beach (15 minutes’ drive), while Crooklets (20 minutes) is another sure-fire surfer hotspot. Options for good old family fun while rockpooling include the vast, dog-friendly Sandymouth Bay and sheltered Summerleaze beaches (both 15 minutes’ drive). Walkers can hike the South West Coast Path (15 minutes) along glorious Cornish headlands, and inland there are meadow trails to follow in Dunsdon National Nature Reserve (10 minutes). There are waterside strolls and cycle tracks around Upper Tamar Lake (10 minutes) too, where you can also hire gear for paddleboarding and dinghy sailing if you feel the need to up the energy quotient. Take your camera with you to capture shots in the oh-so-cute cobbled alleys and at the harbour in Clovelly (25 minutes), and get it out again to photograph the fabulous walled gardens at waterfront Hartland Abbey (30 minutes) – so gorgeous it’s often used as a film location.
