  • Family site within walking distance of Bude and surfing beaches
  • Around half an hour's walk to a deli, bakery, cafés, pubs and tapas
  • Couples also welcome; seashell craft studio on site
If you're looking for a base to explore north Cornwall and all of its stunning scenery, take a good, long look at Atlantic Camping. Just off the A39, the 26-acre farm site has pitches set among gorgeous planted Cornish palms. Take a 25-minute stroll down past the local bakery to reach the cobblestone wharf along the canal path. There are several restaurants and cafés where you might want to grab a coffee, ice cream or something to eat. From there, it's only another 15 minutes' walk to the beach – where it's high time you ditched those shoes – or 20 to the Bude Sea Swimming Pool, a semi-natural tidal pool on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. With four beaches set within a four-mile radius of the site, there's plenty to do, whether you're keen to hire a surfboard, try some watersports or hike along the South West Coast path directly from Bude. Bude also has a links golf course with views of the coast and countryside, a leisure centre with an indoor pool, wave machine and waterslide and plenty of pubs selling lush Cornish cider. Back on site, while away any downcast days in the Seashell Craft Studio, making mirrors, picture frames or plant pots. For outdoor activities, there's a small play park and a designated pitch for ball games. The site also has a shower block with heated showers, toilets, washing-up facilities and an eco waste disposal point. No need to cram in too many extra clothes either; the on-site laundry facilities accept contactless payments. For grocery shopping and other everyday needs, Atlantic Camping is within walking distance of a 24-hour shop and a short drive away from supermarkets and shops selling hardware and car parts. And if it's more tourist destinations that you're looking for, the site is half an hour's drive from Bocastle, 40 minutes from Tintagel and just over an hour from Padstow.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The grounds are maintained and field looks pleasant with the palm tree lined rows, short distance by car or bike to bude

Disliked: Facilities are extremely basic, washing up sink situated in open field, washing up bowl and washing up liquid provided yet no water out of tap, granted there was a tap 6ft away, showers, well rather shower as only 2 and one of those was out of order, didn’t really appreciate cold shower at this time of year, no shelf to put anything on, but there was a hook on door, toilets all 2 of them was once again basic in a wooden hut and if you don’t mind being able to see out and in down the inch gap on door. rather disappointed as expecting to see the carry on team appear,

From the manager: We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our beautifully maintained pitches. We really do believe that our camp field is a bit special with the Cornish palms and luscious planting.

We try where we can to be responsive to reviews, and one of the main pieces of 'room for improvement' feedback we had last year was that our toilet and shower facilities could use a refresh. Which is why this year we put in a revamp on the toilet and shower block. I believe your stay was whilst we were redoing the toilet and shower block so we were working with the minimal facilities for a short period out of season when there were very few guests in the camp field. We are sorry if this impacted your stay - please don't hesitate to contact us directly and we can see what we can do should you like to return to us again in the future.

Ok for a quick winter stopover but nothing to write home about.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly welcome; proximity to Bude.

Disliked: A lack of winter proof Motorhome parking meant that we were joined by several other vans in a small gravel car park with gave us no outside space. The shower / toilet facility was not very clean with no evidence of daily cleaning during our 3 night stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Palm trees in between pitches, quiet and peaceful in November!

Disliked: Shed showers cold, tepid water that kept turning cold not nice at all any time of year especially Nov, hot water is a must on a site, so no wouldn't go back. Cold water wash up area pointless.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Peaceful location and close to Bude for walking, plenty of space between pitches and site was very quiet when we stayed there.

Disliked: Showers at bottom end of site were cold every time I tried them, a bit better up the site though but nowhere to put your clothes and no lights either. The toilets weren’t great either with no indication of being cleaned - person leaving them like that in the first place needs to be toilet trained again though! Advertises various animals and my wife loves alpacas, sadly they’d all passed away much earlier in the year! One of the reason I booked this site. Hey ho

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice pitches especially ones at the bottom which are hedged on both sides. Grassed areas all near and tidy.

Disliked: The toilet and showers are like something from the 1970’s in wooden sheds. There was no hot water despite there being only a few outfits staying and even after our request to check it there was none. Only cold water tap in the toilets.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location is ideal for a walk into Bude, directions well sign posted by the site.
Quiet location even on the evenings
Country setting but with all the amenities that was required (pot washing, showers, toilet, laundry)
Showers were hot even though they are unique, in that they are in a wooden shed
Farm location gives the children something to do on site
Staff helpful and friendly

Disliked: Nothing, our stay was perfect

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The flowers were lovely. Children's play area was nice too. About a mile from Bude.

Disliked: The toilets were full of cobwebs with no hand soap or paper towels to dry your hands and the showers were filthy. The walls were grimy with soap scum. ( there was a sign saying leave this shower clean and tidy!!) Surely this is your job? The washing up area was open to the elements with no plugs in any of the 3 sinks ( one of which was out of order )

Local attractions

The beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine. The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling. In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings – including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps tackle the South West Coast Path from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…? Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too.
