  • Peaceful family-friendly site set in ancient West Sussex woodland
  • Sheffield Park five minutes’ drive; Millennium Seed Bank 20 minutes
  • Firepits available; solar-powered showers; food trucks at the weekend
Tucked into the South Downs in the middle of West Sussex, Kitts Campsite is peaceful and family friendly, offering three camping meadows surrounded by 100s of acres of woodland (well-behaved dogs will enjoy accompanying you on walks through the trees) in the spectacular High Weald National Landscape. The shops and restaurants of Haywards Heath are 10 minutes’ drive, and the lovely gardens and lakeside walks of Sheffield Park are five minutes away by car. This may be a back-to-basics site but there are enough facilities to keep everyone cheerful – the Sussex-timber field barn has flushing toilets, solar-powered showers and an undercover washing-up area. Every pitch has a firepit and there’s a wood-delivery service every evening. Massages and sauna treatments can be arranged by booking in advance, and on Saturdays, the Kitts Café serves hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes and toasted paninis. Come 6pm, the Loveabowl food truck serves delicious curry; turn up in hope there's some left, or let them know your order in advance. Alternatively, you can head for the country pub about 10 minutes’ walk away through the ancient woodland.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Fantastic site. We were welcomed on site by a lovely guy who directed us to available pitches and sold us a really good basket of wood for the fire pits (which are provided free of charge at each pitch).

Pitches are really big and so you don't feel cramped at all. Facilities very clean and just what we needed.

Beautiful walk on alltrails that starts at the campsite showing some of the beautiful countryside surrounding.

Will definitely be returning and bringing friends with us.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Massive pitch sizes with lots of space between pitches. Whole site is surrounded by woodland. Absolutely stunning. Very accessible. Beautiful drive to get there. Clean showers and clean toilets which always had toilet paper. Firewood delivery to your pitch every evening. Could hear owls at night which was such a treat! Really great communication from owners both before and during our stay. Just an all round amazing campsite . Will definitely be coming back to stay again!!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Such a great campsite, I was welcomed immediately on arrival and made to feel very welcome. The site is really well kept with so many great pitches to choose from, and plenty of firepits to go around. The toilets were very clean and tidy and water points are located around the site. The location is stunning, surrounded by tree's and woods. There are some nice public footpaths through the nearby forest. There is a heritage railway nearby too which adds a nice back drop hearing the steam engines and their whistles in the distance. You can see a lot of stars on an evening, not much light pollution around. Will definitely be coming back!

Local attractions

Explore the gorgeous Sussex Downs with a ride on the Bluebell Railway from Sheffield Park Station, or take time to explore the glorious lakeside gardens and historic estate at Grade 1-listed Sheffield Park (both five minutes’ drive). There is more stunning parkland at Borde Hill Garden (15 minutes), and you can visit the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst (20 minutes) as well as exploring 500 acres planted with shrubs and trees from across the globe. If you fancy a day by the sea, Brighton and Eastbourne are both about 45 minutes’ drive away; you might also like to check out the dramatic sea cliffs at Birling Gap (50 minutes), or sample fish and chips on Worthing Pier (45 minutes). Should you hit a rainy day, take a tour and enjoy tastings at 360° Brewing Co + Taproom (five minutes), or enrol the kids on pottery-making courses at Pots of Love (15 minutes). If more energetic wet-weather pursuits are required, a visit to Fun Abounds Trampoline and Gymnastics Centre (20 minutes) should ensure that everyone ends up happily worn out.
