  • Small eco-campsite 15 minutes’ walk from the South Downs Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Brighton and half an hour from Glyndebourne
  • Off-grid site power by solar panels; pub 15 minutes’ walk
Set in 54 acres of spectacular South Downs chalk grassland, outrageously easy to get to (it’s an hour from London by train), and run on firmly green lines, Wolstonbury Dreaming has just a handful of spacious, remote camping pitches so you can relax in your own private outdoor space. Enjoy barbecues on open fires (buy locally sourced firewood on the site) while listening out for the skylarks and enjoying the spectacular views of Wolstonbury Hill and Newtimber Hill. Should you choose to venture off site, there’s a popular pub in Pyecombe village within 15 minutes’ walk, plus plenty of restaurants within 15 minutes’ drive offering food and drinks. Off-grid, state-of-the-art compostable toilets and washing facilities are available for all, along with a back-to-basics, outdoor bucket shower. The farm provides certified clean drinking water from its own bore hole, and runs on its own solar panels – so if you need to charge your phone and your battery bank has run out, there is a charging point in the barn.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, eco-friendly campsite with a focus on sustainability and minimal environmental impact. Guests consistently praise the welcoming and friendly owners and staff, as well as the spacious, well-maintained pitches offering beautiful views of the South Downs. The location is ideal for walkers and close to local pubs. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, a few visitors noted the proximity of the A23 road as a minor downside.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location with Lovely scenery esp the View from Wolstonbury tor. Local pub The Plough Pyecombe did a good Sunday roast, this was a 45 min steep but good walk up from campsite over hill and down dale; and 20 mins walk on the road back. Excellent bore water , clean toilet facilities, basic bucket shower under the trees.

Disliked Road access could be tricky / not suitable for some vehicles as it’s steep gravel. The road noise is unfortunately so loud and irritatingly constant I wore earplugs all night. Also the site is underneath the 3:30 - 5:30 am long-haul large plane Gatwick flight path .

From the manager: Well, a 5/10 review talking about being under a Gatwick flight path at 3.30am is a first in 15 years.
as is calling the walk to or from the Plough “45 mins steep”.
Yes there is road noise but as for that description of a flight path.. could that have been a dream?

5/10 reviews can kill a small business, and it follows a previous 7/10 review (with a customer who didn’t pay their full bill - I offered a discount as could tell she was mildly unhappy) so what to say after 15 years of so many happy customers.. I can’t change the road noise but it’s not according to most people, a ‘tank the review average issue’

Only recently joined this OTA and it does feel like customer experience is less grounded in our shared values .. and the wish to support small businesses - maybe there’s something about expectations and values with booking via PitchUp - which is of course a corporate intervention to make it super easy for customers and like booking.com, take the cut from the small businesses .. in the small business world it’s tricky to navigate - as opposed to people who find us by other means (local adverts for example)- so maybe it’s not the right platform for us.

This is a small place with limited visitor capacity, so we might do better to work on limiting our reach to customers we can, on balance, really share our values with and have them resonate. Thanks for the pointer Felicity.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay.

What really stood out was their commitment to sustainability—the campsite is beautifully eco-friendly, with recycling stations, and a strong emphasis on leaving minimal impact on the environment. It felt great to stay somewhere that aligns with my values.

Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or a family, this campsite offers the perfect balance of tranquility, sustainability, and accessibility. I’ll definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A wonderful, small campsite with large individual pitches mown into the long grass (massive for my tiny tent!). The pitches are in a row so don't feel at all crowded and instead the view from the pitch is across the field, up the hill, with a few sheep hanging around.

The owner was very friendly and around for a chat. Cars are parked in a small parking area, not at the pitches, which I prefer. It's only a 1 minute walk and wheel barrows are provided if needed. The location was perfect for me, in the downs but easy to get into Brighton.

Disliked The only downside was the noise from the A23, but that's inevitable given the location and not a big problem.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Spacious campsite with extensive views of South Downs and dog can be off-lead. Clean facilities provided with plush towels. Right by the Wolstonbury Hill walking path with scenic views. Each site has ample space with picnic table and chairs provided with an area for you to set campfire or bbq. Very friendly owner. We had a great time and so did our dog, we hope to return again.
