  • Adults-only showman’s carriage in the High Weald National Landscape
  • In a Sussex meadow, half an hour’s walk from the Bluebell Railway
  • Off-grid and remote spot with hammocks; pub five minutes’ drive
Treat yourself to some time away at Ravenswyld in the High Weald National Landscape. Set in a tree-fringed meadow, its showman’s carriage is a cosy spot for adults only. Completely off-grid, it has plenty of creature comforts including a woodburning stove, dining table, proper bed and a shower and composting toilet. This peaceful spot is remote and scenic, with just the sound of horses whinnying and steam trains chugging along nearby. It’s half an hour’s walk away from the Bluebell Railway Horsted Keynes station, so there’s also the option of getting onboard and taking the 11-mile trip through the Sussex countryside. At Ravenswyld, there are hammocks if you fancy lying down and unwinding (or indeed, taking a nap after hours of hiking). There’s also a stream to paddle in and an outdoor kitchen with a grill for scenic alfresco dinners. If you prefer to eat out, there is a pub in West Hoathly, five minutes’ drive away. More pubs are within 10 minutes’ drive of the site, and one of these is a country pub with a beer garden and a good Sunday roast.

Liked: This place was an absolute dream, we wanted a weekend cut off from the outside world and this gave us exactly that!

The hosts Andrew and Marisian where friendly and welcoming and showed us around and how everything worked, we had a lovely conversation about their plans going forward including the plans to make the place even more environmentally friendly.

There wasn’t a single thing more we could have asked for that they hadnt thought about.

We can not wait to come back next year to see all the changes they have planned and for another weekend of peace and quite surrounded by the steam rail way and sounds of the wild life!
