Adsdean Avenue Camping
A limited number of pitches on a field with plenty of space
Camping field set in woodland
Entrance through the woods

  • Off-grid woodland camping on the edge of Funtington in West Sussex
  • South Downs National Park five minutes’ drive; Chichester 15 minutes
  • Peaceful pop-up site with spacious pitches; pub five minutes’ drive
After a dollop of peace and quiet along with an almost wild camping adventure on the edge of the South Downs? Adsdean Avenue Camping, five minutes’ drive from the country village of Funtington, is where you need to be. Set in woodlands, the vast pop-up camping field has a limited number of pitches so everybody is nicely spread out and private. The meadow is surrounded by lush farmland and mature trees, and your rural soundtrack will be birdsong and the rustling of leaves. The simplicity of the setup (no electricity, no wifi, no showers) gives you all a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, whether you’re looking to explore the walking – bring any family dogs to join your expeditions – and cycling trails nearby, enjoy family evenings cuddled up around the campfire, or go stargazing under the clear night sky. Essential amenities include water available across the site and basic toilets. Barbecues are allowed on the pitches, but you’ll need to bring your own equipment from home. If you’re not into alfresco cooking, luckily there’s a pub serving decent grub in Funtington.

This spacious, peaceful campsite offers a back-to-basics experience with the freedom to have campfires. Visitors praise the exceptionally clean portaloos, readily available fresh water, and the friendly, helpful owner, Josh. The location is ideal for cycling and enjoying nature, with wildlife sightings and beautiful sunsets. While there are no showers, many appreciate the remote feel. Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked - My friend and I came here for my birthday and we were lucky enough to have the whole field to ourselves. I honestly couldn't think of a better way to start my birthday!
- Remote location, back-to-basics in the best way. I love that they allow responsible campfires which adds to the camping experience. Beautiful sunsets over cornfields and plenty of wildlife including deer.
- Clean portaloos with fresh towel, new soap and even an air freshener!
- Plenty of fresh water provided daily for us, even when we consumed more than the average person due to the heat and cycling!
- Easy access to many cycle paths from the campsite itself with some stunning viewpoints and parts of the South Downs Way passing very close by.
- Josh, the campsite owner was really friendly and a genuinely great guy. Going above and beyond doesn't begin to cover his heroics of going through the bin to find some birthday money I had accidentally thrown away, and then keeping it safe for me to collect another day. Thanks Josh!

Disliked -There are no showers which is both a pro and con. Yes, you have to wash with baby wipes or go down to the sea for a wash and it's not ideal when it is a heatwave and you're cycling...BUT being a back-to-basics campsite is what keeps it from being overrun like many others and for me this is worth it as nature and remoteness is what I go camping for.
- Tufty grass field is quite bumpy but as long as you have a decent roll matt you will be fine (I didn't feel a thing!)

Liked Clean and quiet, great wildlife around. We sat listening to the various owl calls which was great. Toilets were very clean, and well stocked. Josh was really friendly and helpful. Loved it, thank you.

Liked The portaloo’s were extremely clean and stocked with toilet rolls, hand soap and even a hand towel (nice touch). The water was fresh and the owner was very accommodating and nice. It was a lovely quiet and secluded location where we weren’t hassled at all. We had a perfect time!! Would definitely come back again!

Liked It is a beautifully situated, very potential place. When we were there we moved to another place. Our neighbors 20 meters away could be heard well into the night.
I can see this getting better!

Disliked Personally, I always don't like chemical toilets.
There was also no more water at one point and that's a shame!
I suspect that this will be better next year because there is room and, as I heard, the owner wants to improve a lot!
