  • Tiny, family-friendly site on an Isle of Wight goat farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Blackgang Chine; footpaths and cycling nearby
  • Pub and shop nearby; barbecue stands; shop on site
It may be small, but Kingston Smallholding Goat Farm Campsite is mighty fine. This is a tiny, family-friendly site with a difference, down to eco-friendly facilities and fresh produce for sale… and it’s all part of a wacky, six-acre smallholding on the Isle of Wight with over fifty goats, a handful of pigs, a flock of hens and five farmyard cats. Between Shorwell and Chale Green and surrounded by farmlands on all sides, the goat farm is a short drive away from the island’s main cycling and walking routes and just two miles from the south coast (where you can link up with the coastal path). There’s no electricity or hot running water, but what you do have are composting toilets, a shower-in-a-shed, utility sinks and plenty of cold water that can be heated up over a firepit. There’s unlimited free wood for that, together with several barbecue stands for those of you who can’t pass up a good grilling session. The site sells frozen local meat and fresh eggs. For anything else, the village shop and pub are just five minutes’ drive away. Please note that due to the goats, no dogs are allowed but school children can stay for half price.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Clean, friendly and basic, but in the best possible way! We absolutely loved our week-long stay at the campsite. With three young children (ages 5, 3 and 1) we were slightly anxious about the idea of eco camping, but were immediately put at ease once we'd been shown round and saw how clean and well maintained everything was! The compost toilets were absolutely spotless, regularly emptied, fresh, and there was never any shortage of toilet paper or soap.

You can choose your own pitch (unmarked), and there's plenty of space. The field is gently sloped, but didn't cause us any issues. The kids loved meeting other children camping nearby.

Simone and David were so welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed chatting with them when we bumped into them around the site, and the children loved feeding the goats and sheep with Simone in the morning.

It was such a wholesome experience for all of us - a chance to slow down and for the children to experience something completely different. They loved helping to pitch the tent, collect firewood, carry buckets of water, wash up and they were excited to observe the animals at every given opportunity. There's also a small play area with a boat and swing which kept them occupied nicely while we were busy stoking the fire or washing up.

The shower-in-a-shed experience was far better than I anticipated. You can brave a cold shower, wait until the evening when the sun has warmed the water (we were admittedly very lucky with the weather!), or heat water over the fire. The fire option takes a bit of effort but we actually found it fun.

The location is great - everything we wanted to see and do was within about 30 minutes of the site, and the proximity of Blackgang Chine was perfect for us!

We look forward to visiting again!

Disliked Going home at the end of the week! I asked my five year old what he didn't like about the holiday and his response was "nothing".

Liked Absolutely lovely place to stay for a few nights. The site is spacious and well laid out with lots to see including the goats and other animals as well as the walks going straight from the site. The hosts are very friendly and can't help enough. Very relaxed space to spend some time and unwind

Liked Lovely campsite. I enjoyed the company of several very nice people and David and Simone, the owners of the site. It is a small and simple place, but it attracts a certain kind of people you want to have long chats with around a campfire.

Toilets and shower are clean, simple, nature friendly. Don't expect flushing toilets or any of that 21st century stuff ;-) Goats, pigs, sheep are eager to meet you. Furthermore, it is a very peaceful place that invites you to put your phone away and look at the stars, or share a beer with your neighbour.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Perfect location for peace and quiet and surrounded by beautiful views, David and Simone are very welcoming and made you at home, they went out the way to make sure you had everything you needed, this campsite/goat farm is so relaxing and good if you have children as they can help feed the sheep and goats, even though the amenities are basic I wouldn’t change it as it is just perfect as it is and how camping should be, there’s also fire pits that you can borrow and free wood to use to have a camp fire at night and toast some marshmallows if you want to, I wouldn’t change definitely be returning

Disliked Nothing to dislike

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Myself and my partner have recently found a love for camping. We really enjoy back to basics when it comes to camping and this farm really lived up to our expectations. The natural environment, compost toilets, heating your own water over a fire for the shower, the animals and fresh eggs in the mornings really made this one of the nicest experiences. David and Simone are very welcoming and you really feel at home when you’re there, always very greeting. They were kind enough to let us have a hold of the animals before we had to leave for our transport home and even offering a ride to the local bus station. Every morning you get the opportunity to help go and feed the goats, lambs/sheep. Nothing better than waking up and going to say hello to the animals. They have compost toilets which are so clean every single day and the shower is perfect if you like a bit of graft to your water hot over the fire. You can buy fresh eggs from the chickens on the farm in the mornings if there isn’t any outside you only have to knock and Simone will kindly give you some. Honestly recommend this campsite/farm for anyone who loves nature/animals/back to basic vibes. 10/10 and will 1000% be back

Liked Thoroughly enjoyed this campsite. Giving us a lovely experience especially for our first proper camping session. My two year old and seven year old boys loved it. We barely left the campsite as they enjoyed playing, exploring and feeding the animals.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Brilliant campsite, so good that we willingly visit from only 20 minutes down the road for a couple of nights to get away from it all. Animal feeding happens every morning where your kids can get stuck in helping with the goats. Abundant firewood and firepits for you to use, lovely vibe, very safe for even young kids. Novel system to get hot water which was very fun.

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Liked Really lovely family-run eco-campsite on a farm. Pitches are flat, grass is good. Toilets, showers, and washing up are all basic but perfect, and spotlessly clean. I will definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone staying on IoW.
