Sailing the ocean blue, hiking up Tennyson Down and building sandcastles on Sandown's golden beaches – there's nothing quite like a trip to the Isle of Wight to get you into a jolly holiday mood. Southland Experience Freedom Glamping, a well-maintained site on the outskirts of a quiet village, is just the kind of spot where you can easily get into the swing of things – it has top-notch canvas accommodation for hassle-free stays and is a mere 10-minute drive from the coast. Located in Newchurch and under a mile from the village pub and post office, Southland Experience Freedom Glamping has high-quality facilities intended to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. Well-kept toilet and shower blocks (including disabled cubicles), family-friendly washrooms, a kids' playground and a dog-walking area mean that a wide range of groups will feel instantly comfortable here – and that's before you look inside your tent… Inside, there's room for up to five overnight guests, with nifty features like proper beds, linen, a well-equipped kitchenette and a fridge to help you travel light. These smart pre-pitched safari tents also come with plenty of outdoor space and garden furniture, and all units have uninterrupted views over neighbouring fields and the wider Arreton Valley.

2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: We liked everything! ☆☆☆☆☆

We just got back from Southland, and honestly, it was brilliant! We stayed in one of their Safari Tents, and wow, it had absolutely everything we needed. They even gave us two disposable BBQs for our two-night stay – how good is that?! The place was super clean, which is always a massive plus. And the facilities were spot on, they've really thought of everything.

It was so peaceful and quiet there – a proper escape! Our 5 year old.was in his element with the amazing playground, kept him busy for ages.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We loved wandering around the campsite, the surrounding area is lovely. We saw loads of animals and cute little bunnies hopping about!

2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: We like all of it. The Glamping tents were amazing clean and well organised. You have everything you need cups, glasses, cutlery and so much more you get disposable bbq in the tent so you don't need to rush out and fine one as well as bbq accessories. The bed are really comfy and clean no marks on the bedding. it feel like home from home. The site toilet and showers are amazing clean and well stocked with toilet roll and even got hairdryers. The site has a washing machine you can use. There is a play park for the kids and my kids had a lot of fun there. They have a dog walk part that me and my kids when down to be nosies and there was no dog mess left behind from anyone. The staff could not be more helpful if they tried happy to help with anything you need at the drop of a hat. The staff was alway saying good morning/afternoon and is always smiling. The camp site it's self is very clean well maintained grass was cut and the plants where maintained everyday. We will definitely be going back

2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: We spent 2 nights in a safari tent. Arriving on foot, checking in was friendly, quick, easy and informative.(we were advised of a better bus stop to use for our subsequent journeys to and from the site)
The tent was lovely, with all the kitchen equipment we could need, hot and cold water supply, an electric fab we which we used the first evening and a heater which we made very grateful use of the second!, comfortable beds, a great dining area and a good outdoor space. The toilet and washroom facilities were very clean and well looked after. The playground and wilding area were lovely and we spotted various wildlife on an evening wander. All in all, really lovely site and great experience!

2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: Unexpectedly impressive!
Despite reading all the reviews, I wasn’t expecting this to be as good as it was. We spent 3 nights in a Safari tent. Two bedroom areas, a living room, a kitchen with elec hobs and fridge and microwave. It was basically a small house with canvas walls. The sofa and chairs on the veranda were nice for an early evening beer before dinner.
Facilities were good, small basket of cookies and milk to go with a cup of tea on table, toilets, showers and laundry room all clean and serviceable. I would give it too marks.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, except there was no nearby shop for us as we were on bikes. That’s not the campsite’ s fault - even locals in the village complained they had to drive to get basic provisions. Fortunately we had enough food with us for the first evening and we cycled to shops next day.

Liked: Een luxe tent met heerlijke bedden. Prima keukentje met koelkast en 4 pits kookplaat. Fijne veranda met 3 makkelijke zitplaatsen.

Prima schoon toiletgebouw. De receptie heeft zelfs de meest noodzakelijke spullen als brood en melk. Heel veel informatie over de bezienswaardigheden op het hele eiland.

Local attractions

The long and sandy beaches around Sandown (10 minutes' drive) and the Isle of Wight's gorgeous east coast are very close indeed – head here for amusements on the pier, family-friendly bathing beaches, fossil hunting and sipping drinks in seafront cafés. Meanwhile, on the west coast, surfers have good prospects for catching the island’s bigger waves – and there are a couple of surf schools between Freshwater and Brook Bay (both 30 minutes) where newbies can master the basics. For further contrast, try a trip to the ornate Victorian town of Ventnor (a quarter of an hour away to the south) where there are botanic gardens and elegant villas to admire. This part of the coast is also home to the ever-popular Blackgang Chine amusement park (20 minutes) and splendid St Catherine's Lighthouse (25 minutes). The site is a short drive from inland attractions too, including the Garlic Farm (five minutes), where you can take farm tours, taste the wares or pick up a range of tasty sauces that are sure to add a kick to your cooking. Also away from the coast is the peaceful Yar River Trail, a clearly signposted walking and cycling route that passes about a mile and a half north of the site entrance.
