Park setting

  • Isle of Wight family park with plenty of organised activities
  • Indoor pool, bar and evening entertainment
  • Kids' club for children up to 11 years old
A lunchtime drink on the terrace of the Boathouse bar watching the white sails of the yachts zipping across the water, a hop and a skip down the leafy path to the beach for the afternoon, or a fun-filled night of live entertainment in the Showbar… there are many ways to relax at Thorness Bay Holiday Park in Cowes. Whippersnappers will love whooshing down the slide into the indoor pool before trying out a bit of snorkelling and rollerblading, and they may disappear for some time into the various kids’ clubs, which offer funtastic activities for kids up to 11. The whole family can get stuck into a range of sports on the all-weather court, and during the organised sessions you could chance your arm at archery or even learn to wield a crossbow. To complement the usual amenities, there’s a shop and laundry room, an outdoor playground for the little ones, amusements, darts and a pool table – and the occasional bingo session thrown in for fun.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The location is excellent, the staff is very friendly, and it offers all kinds of services. The facilities were in very good condition and clean. The camping area was well-lit.

Disliked: There were only two or three of us camping, and we were given an area with a very steep ground and poor grass. If the site had been full, it wouldn't have been a problem, but since it was practically empty, they could have put in a little more attention.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Quick check in. Location was lovely, great views and lots to do onsite.

Staff were friendly and service in bars, shops and ice cream/snack bar was great.

Facilities, with the exception of the washing up room, was always clean.

Disliked: Pitch was rutted quite badly, toilet door locks didn’t work in some of the toilets, neither did the hand dryer in the shower/toilet block. Needed a code for the washing up room, which isn’t given to you on arrival.

The washing up room was more often than not, dirty. This I think was more a reflection on the people using it (and not cleaning up afterwards) rather than Park Dean however it could have done with a more regular clean.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Ablutions nice and clean, decent showers.
Pitch size very good and had the choice of a few as they weren’t all occupied.
Welcoming for dogs with easy walk to the beach and plenty of waste bins.

Disliked: Most pitches on a slope, levelling ramps a must and even with ramps still slightly off level.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Easy to book, lovely welcome

Disliked: Shower block water was off, it happens, so no complaint, would have been good to have another facility opened though ( reception & bar closed until 9am) . Lovely setting in a convenient location

Local attractions

Visitors will find lots of yachts and powerboats to drool over in Cowes harbour, and the town is also home to Osborne House, the country retreat of Queen Victoria and her brood. It’s well worth a nose around this magnificent house and its lovely gardens, and the Victorian afternoon teas aren’t half bad either… Since the Isle of Wight is such a bijou island, it doesn’t take long to reach other top attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle, the posh pile where King Charles I was imprisoned, and the island’s heritage steam railway, which regularly runs themed events. For those who fancy a change from the beach at Thorness Bay, the shallow waters at Colwell Bay beach, about 25 minutes away by car, are great for swimming, as well as watersports such as jetskiing and windsurfing.
