  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by countryside five miles from Winchester
  • A 15-minute drive to Mottisfont and 35 minutes from Stonehenge
  • Playground, games field and dog exercise area; firepit hire, logs sold
This is a peaceful campsite that welcomes families and dogs to its level and well-kept pitches, which are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows. With facilities including hot showers and flushing toilets – plus a playground, games field, dog exercise field and footpath to a local country park – Folly Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop place to stay in the gorgeous Hampshire countryside. How to unwind here? Well, there are plenty of spots around the site to let your hair down (thanks to its peaceful and level grassy pitches, play areas, wifi, free showers and walks in the surrounding woodlands) but you’ll have your choice of many a day out from here too. Perhaps a venture into the South Downs National Park (10 minutes’ drive)? Into the vibrant city of Winchester (15 minutes) for its historic sites, such as the medieval cathedral, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the working 18th-century corn mill, Jane Austen’s house or the castle’s medieval round table, once sat at by King Arthur? From Winchester, there’s a short stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen down to England’s oldest medieval almshouse and The Hospital of St Cross or the 25-minute ascent to St Catherine’s Hill for views of the city, a dramatic chalk hill and an Iron Age hillfort. As for ventures from the site, you might want to set your next target as one of three local pubs serving home-cooked food in the villages of Sparsholt, Littleton or Crawley (this one’s 25 minutes’ walk away).

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked The children’s play area and dog exercise area

Disliked Sorry this campsite was not for us ! In our opinion it was just a sectioned off field devoid of all character . We didn’t find the farm because we parked up looked at each other and said not for us and went home . But I will add good facilities for children and dogs .

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely clean site with all the facilities we needed. Friendly wardens.

Disliked Ladies shower facilities need updating- sign to say being upgraded end of June. My partner used the gents showers with his daughter which he found stressful as you can not change the water temperature which was too hot for a 5 year old.

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Very friendly site. The staff were really helpful and dealt with any issues really quickly and kept guests informed about problems such as a power cut that affected the whole area. We were there in a heatwave and it was very hot as there’s little shade on any of the pitches so an awning is a must. Nice walks around the area. It was really useful having a doggy field too.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly wardens who came round a couple of times a day. Noise was kept down in the evenings - there is a play park on site, our children were booted out of the park at the required time (9pm I think) :-) (kids were annoyed but we were fine with it of course and glad that they were firm with them!)

The new toilets / showers hadn’t been finished yet but the existing ones were fine- old, but kept very clean. Electric showers were lovely. Washing up facilities plentiful. Water points dotted around. Site very clean and tidy.

Pitches an ok size. It wasn’t super busy when we were there but I don’t think I’d come in peak time, just personal preference.

Our kids loved the dedicated football field to play on. We had even more space as the site wasn’t full so the camping field next to us was empty too.

The ANPR bollard was reassuring for safety.

Disliked First- these are all minor things! More to be aware of than to put you off.

Very little shade in most of the fields; be aware if you’re there in a heatwave.

A long walk from our pitch in birch field to the toilets. Our youngest kids are a bit young to go on their own so we got a lot of steps in! They’re too big to use a potty now but definitely suggest that option for families with smaller kids. Minor problem really though.

Logs £15 a bag which I felt was a bit high - we were worried about the quality as it was chopped up bits of tree rather than split logs but it burned fine so must’ve been properly seasoned, no problem there.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the site, very clean facilities, felt safe there. Lots of space to walk dog. Very friendly wardens came around and asked me if I was okay. Good value for money.

Disliked Only dislike was toilet block a fair walk if you are staying in the furthest field, but I understand new ones are being built.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We're delighted you loved the site, the clean facilities and the warm welcome from our wardens. How lovely to know you felt safe here and your dog enjoyed the dog exercising area. Currently the facility blocks are between 80 and 200 meters from the pitches to avoid noise and light pollution as we are a dark sky site, and also because that's where the services are. However, we are discussing the logistics of moving them onto the campsite in the future.

Would definitely stay here again, nice little quiet campsite

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good location, not far from Winchester and good local pubs. Pitch was quite tidy and secure. Toilets and showers were clean and fairly modern. Some toilets and shower units were combined and felt private.

Disliked Toilets were a little confusing as there was a sign saying new women's block coming soon end of June (we stayed in July and there was no new block) Toilets were also all unisex, this didn't really bother us but may bother other people

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We're pleased you found the site tidy and secure and the facilities clean and modern. Apologies for the confusion, weekdays during the school term, when the campsite is less busy, our unisex block with separate private bathrooms is open. At the weekends and during school holidays, when we're busier, additional men's and women's toilet and shower blocks are open. There is a brand new women's block opening at the start of the school holidays. We had hoped this would be ready at the end of June but there was a slight delay on some of the fittings. We look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy the new facilities.

Local attractions

Get keyed up on the local history… with hillforts, National Trust properties and historic steam railways around, there are many jaunts to take you way back. Closest to the site, there's Danebury Iron Age Hillfort (10 minutes’ drive), Mottisfont’s (15 minutes) historical priory, garden and country estate (15 minutes) or Winchester’s (15 minutes) cathedral, castle, markets and fairs. Perhaps the most iconic of the lot, Stonehenge (35 minutes) is a short trip away. Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' (25 minutes) will take you on a ride along a 19th-century heritage steam train line, while the National Motor Museum (45 minutes) and the maritime museum at Buckler's Hard (55 minutes) are full to the brim with old artefacts. Once you’re done with country house tours – perhaps at Broadlands House (35 minutes) or the National Trust’s Georgian Hinton Ampner (25 minutes) – a festival might bring you firmly to the present again. The Boomtown Fair venue (20 minutes) and Carfest South venue (25 minutes) are both close by. But, how to finish off your stay? Maybe the 72-hectare arboretum at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens (20 minutes), the birds of prey experiences at the Hawk Conservancy Trust (25 minutes), Marwell Zoo (half an hour), Salisbury Cathedral (half an hour) or the kid-friendly Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour)?
