  • Well-maintained dog-friendly site in a central Hayling Island location
  • Walk to the beach in 20 minutes; Portsmouth and ferries 20 mins' drive
  • Swimming pool, café and shop on site; pubs within walking distance
Say hello to Hayling Island – and a fabulous location pretty much in the centre of this Hampshire holiday hotspot. The Oven Campsite is just to the north of the island’s main town, West Town, and easily accessed from the A3023, the main road across the island. Despite that handy location, this is a place that’s surrounded by gorgeous green views, so it’s a relaxing setting for a short break (or a longer one, for that matter…) Being so central to the island means that it’s easy to get out and about to all its attractions – perhaps heading south to the beach, amusement park and golf course or a little way north to the donkey sanctuary. Or, of course, you might simply elect to hang around on site – after all, there is an open-air pool here for sunny afternoons of splashing about or sunbathing. The site also has a play area, a café with outdoor seating, and a shop where you can pick up snacks and ice creams. There are several country pubs serving food within walking distance if you fancy stretching your legs, and a handy supermarket just five minutes’ walk away if you’d rather sort yourselves with picnic supplies. With showers, toilets, a washing-up area and a launderette on site you should be sorted for amenities whether you’re just overnighting or settling in for a few days. Those seeking a short stopover may like to know that the Portsmouth ferry terminal is a handy 20 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

You can’t come to Hayling Island without hitting the beach… and that’s easily done from here, as it’s a 20-minute walk down through the town to the beach, a long stretch of sand and stone with several seafront cafés. The focal point of the seafront is the popular Funland amusement park, home to rollercoasters, family rides and adventure golf as well as a soft play and plenty of arcade games. You can also take a ride on the Hayling Light Railway, a narrow-gauge railway running along the seafront. Meanwhile, over to the west of the beach is Hayling Golf Club, hailed as one of the top courses in the UK (with an extra challenge when the wind blows in off the sea…) Portsmouth (20 minutes’ drive) is a handy place to catch a ferry, but it’s also a great place to visit in its own right – especially if you’re interested in maritime history. The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is home to the Mary Rose and HMS Victory as well as a couple of excellent museums, and a ride up to the top of the Spinnaker Tower gives fabulous views across the city and the Solent.
