  • Scenic and spacious glampsite on a working farm in the High Weald
  • A 15-minute drive from Tunbridge Wells, Bedgebury Pinetum and Go Ape
  • Wildlife spotting and llama trekking on site
Wide open spaces, lots of greenery and a nature-filled vibe… if you seek such things to soothe the soul, park up for peaceful stays at Bluecaps Farm, a family-friendly glampsite on a family-run working farm five minutes’ drive (about two miles) from the East Sussex town of Wadhurst. In the scenic High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this spacious site has plenty to keep outdoorsy types busy, with lengthy rambles across lush fields, through dense woodland and along country lanes and bridleways starting on site. Interested in finding a companion for those strolls? The site owners also operate a llama trekking business, and guests are more than welcome to sign up for a saunter with one of the woolly beasts. Some walks will bring guests to viewpoints overlooking Bewl Water, about a mile and a half away, where regular boat trips go out on the reservoir, an adventure playground keeps kids busy, and a 13-mile walking or biking route around the water’s edge ensures muscles get a good stretch. Lazier days can be spent back on site, luxuriating in the peace and quiet. Each unit has a firepit or barbecue so outdoor eats can be handily managed, and in-unit kitchen facilities can handle anything an open fire can’t. Once sitting still, make the most of proximity to nature by keeping eyes peeled for foxes, deer, buzzards and owls – just some of the site’s regular visitors.

Poppy shepherd's hut (two person)

Liked: A friendly welcome and well-equipped hut with everything I needed. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and lots of wildlife around (rabbits, foxes and birds of prey) as well as the llamas, horses and goats nearby!
Was perfect on the sunny day of my stay and also cosy on the day it rained - I will definitely be back!

Local attractions

History buffs are well catered for hereabouts, with a wide range of National Trust properties and other historical spots within easy reach. The closest is Scotney Castle (10 minutes’ drive away) – a moated 14th-century castle and country house – but Bateman’s (Rudyard Kipling’s former home), Pashley Manor, Groombridge Place, Bodiam Castle and Sissinghurst Castle are all within half an hour. Places with a historical flavour aren’t just confined to stately homes either… It’s a 15-minute drive to the town of Tunbridge Wells, where museums can be explored and the health-conscious can take the waters at the Chalybeate Spring. Steering clear of urban streets for a bit? Step into nature with walks and picnics at Bedgebury Pinetum (15 minutes) – a Go Ape is handily placed here for treetop feats of derring-do – or with rambles and games of Pooh Sticks in Ashdown Forest (35 minutes), the 500-acre home of the Hundred Acre Wood, Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. To explore on a grander scale, make tracks for London – roughly an hour away – to wander around famed sights (perhaps the Tower of London, British Museum and Hyde Park for starters), go shopping in Covent Garden or on Oxford Street, or take in a West End show.
